shakespearesglobe.com/tstp introduction

Dear Teacher, Teaching Shakespeare Through Performance at Shakespeare’s Globe is an intensive three-week programme which will offer you practical approaches to teaching Shakespeare in your classroom. Participants attend Globe productions and meet theatre artists involved in their creation. Work with Globe Education Practitioners will also explore the relationship between Shakespeare’s text and Shakespeare’s stage and, whether or not you have acted before, you will have the opportunity to test that relationship by taking part in a Shakespeare scene on the Globe stage at midnight. You will also work on the stage of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse – a reconstruction of a 17th century indoor playhouse – which opened in 2014. My thanks to the English-Speaking Union of the United States for continuing to support Teaching Shakespeare Through Performance. The course is open to Middle and High school English and Drama teachers from across the USA. Shakespeare remains the only author listed in Common Core State Standards Initiative and alumni assure us that this course fully supports Shakespeare at the Core. Participants regularly use Globe Education approaches when teaching a variety of other texts and have been quick to share their experience at the Globe with colleagues back at school. I do hope you will consider joining us at Shakespeare’s Globe in the summer of 2017.
