With the end of an era and the final demolition of the Works at Cefn Mawr, the site is vacant. The PKC Group have organised meetings with Eastman’s (now the site owners) and WCBC about how the site could be turned around to benefit the community. We have looked at the proposed LDP2, the new Local Development Plan by Council which is due to run until 2028 to see how the proposals we are making for Cefn Mawr can be coordinated. The LDP2 is largely based on the WAG, Welsh Assembly Government SDP, Sustainable Development Plan for Wales. Therefore our proposals are tailored to be in agreement with this and support both the WCBC and WAG for the benefit of our community. We need to turn this site around and make it into a positive asset rather than allowing it to be a detrimental burden on our community. As we all know the sees thousands of tourists every year, but how many venture into Cefn Mawr? In general, they don’t come and the barrier is the ex Monsanto site. The proposals by the PKC Group address this and look towards establishing Cefn Mawr as a Transport Hub. The proposals are: (1) The Windborne Gate to be set up as the main parking area for the aqueduct and Cefn Mawr. (2) To open up Jessop’s Tramway, this is the road leading from the Flexsys Social Club to the Crane, this will bring a lot more traffic into Cefn Mawr and give direct road access to the aqueduct. These two proposals need to be completed ASAP, to help our local economy grow and increase employment opportunities. (3) There is a very good case for a Railway Station at Cefn Mawr and the ideal location would be next to Tesco. This would establish Cefn Mawr as a Rural / Urban Transport Hub for the Pontcysyllte World Heritage Site, Dee Valley and South Wrexham. (4) The complete reinstatement of the Plas Kynaston Canal all the way to the Queens Hotel establishing Cefn Mawr as the primary marina location and destination north of the aqueduct. More information can be found on our website and at the Library, Post Office, Tesco and other shops. We need petitions signing and hope you will join in to try and get a better future for the Cefn & Cefn Mawr.
