Kamaloope, B.C. 3 Golden Eagles open baseball season with a lot of new faces The College of Southern Idaho baseball team begins its journey towards a Region 18 Championship with just six familiar faces on its roster. But the Golden Eagles will still have experience as six transfers join the six returning sophomores. The only returner on the mound will be Cody White. The sophomore from Lacey, Wash. pitched in 17 games with a 2.21 ERA last season. He is joined by 13 other CSI players that could see action at the pitcher position. “Our pitching depth will be one of our strengths,” said CSI head coach Boomer Walker. “Because we have so many new faces, we might show our inexperience early.” Also joining the Eagles is first-year pitching coach Nick Aiello. Aiello pitched at CSI in 1999 and led the Eagles to a Region 18 Championship, earning Region 18 Tournament MVP honors. Position players that return for the Golden Eagles include Chase Harris, Parker Webster, Luke Miller, Andrew Freter and Ben Douglas. Douglas and Harris earned Region 18 First Team honors as freshmen. Parker Webster was selected to the second team. “We are definitely a quicker and more powerful team than last season,” Walker said. “Athleticism in our position players is a strength. We are more athletic as hitters. I’m not sure we are better at the plate but we will be able to manufacture more runs because of our athleticism.” 4 2012 Outlook But Walker pointed out that the team is very limited in its hitting depth. “We cannot afford to have injuries,” Walker said. “We need to stay healthy or our lack of depth offensively could be an issue.” To get to the NJCAA World Series, the Golden Eagles will need to win the Region 18 Tournament and the Western District playoff. Last season, Salt Lake CC won the Region 18 Tournament but fell to Central Arizona College in the district playoff. Central Arizona went on to place second in the nation. The winner of the Scenic West Athletic Conference play will host the Region 18 Tournament. “Our league will be way up from last year,” Walker said. “Southern Nevada, Western Nevada and Salt Lake are better. I’d like to think we are better. We play in an extremely tough league.” 5 Boomer Walker

!! 2013- 2014 Annual Report Communities In Schools surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. !!!!! From Our Leadership Message from Board President, Susie Lee and Chief Executive Officer, Diane Fearon On behalf of the Board of Directors and the staff of Communities In Schools of Nevada, we are pleased to share our 2013-2014 Communities In Schools of Nevada Annual Report with you, our partners, supporters, volunteers, advocates and employees. As CIS Founder, Bill Milliken, states “It’s relationships, not programs, that change children.” At CIS of Nevada, we have had an amazing year of growth and change, which has enabled us to create many additional, transformational relationships with the kids who need us most. Our Annual Report highlights our successes enjoyed as we have expanded our services to include even more students and schools across Nevada. In the following pages, we will reveal our annual results from the last school year and celebrate individual and collective successes of the children who we serve each day. The report will showcase the vital ongoing and new community partnerships and acknowledge our supporters and donors that help us accomplish our mission. CIS of Nevada’s success would not happen without the hard work and determination of our Board of Directors and dedicated staff, whose commitment to making a difference to Nevada students shines every day. The continued positive results we see as our partnerships with Clark, Elko and now the Washoe County School Districts highlight the critical roles that CIS of Nevada plays in the lives of low-income, high-risk students throughout our state.

  • Bullpen Falters After Pitch Count Chases Kluber by Jason
Bullpen falters after pitch count chases Kluber By Jason Beck and William Kosileski / MLB.com | 12:18 AM ET + 6 COMMENTS CLEVELAND -- Michael Fulmer won't pitch in the Midsummer Classic, but he'll settle for winning a duel opposite fellow American League All- Star Corey Kluber. Fulmer's six-plus quality innings and Justin Wilson's five-out save helped the Tigers close out the first half by avoiding a series sweep to the Indians with a 5-3 win Sunday night at Progressive Field. Cleveland heads into the All-Star break at 47-40, up 2 1/2 games on the Twins in the AL Central. Detroit moved within eight games but still has work to do at 39-48 as general manager Al Avila listens to offers ahead of the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline. Kluber and Fulmer (9-6) both allowed a run on three hits over their first five innings. But while Fulmer did it in just 58 pitches, Kluber threw 101, thanks in part to eight strikeouts. Detroit scored three runs in the sixth off the Tribe bullpen, two on Alex Presley's go-ahead double, to move ahead for good. Fulmer entered the seventh with a 5-1 lead and a pitch count of only 71, but four straight hits, including Jose Ramirez's two-run homer, knocked Fulmer out of the game before an out was recorded. Shane Greene retired three straight to escape the jam, then turned the ball over to Wilson, who stranded the bases loaded in the eighth and worked around a single in the ninth for his 10th save.
