LATEST NEWS The Culmination of Your Summer Sport! As your Little Athletics season comes to an end, there are still two important state events. The State Multi Event Championships on Saturday 11th February is open to the U11 to U17 age groups. If you enter the State Multi Event Championships then you and your family can stay free of charge to watch the star athletes in the Perth Track Classic on Saturday eve- ning.

THE FINAL EVENTS OF THE SUMMER SEASON: U7 to U9 age groups, your final event will be the Heats and Quarter Finals on the weekend of March 3/4 2012. U10 to U15 (Metro centres only) the Heats & Quarter finals on March 3/4 are your oppor- tunity to try for an entry into the State Track & Field Semi Finals/Finals on the 17/18 March. The top certain number from each event will be eligible to go on through to the States. U10 to U15 (Country Centres) and U16/17 are eligible to enter into the State Track & Field Championships semi final/finals. Entries to these event close very soon so see your Manager as soon as possible to register

THE WINTER PROGRAM If you are interested in keeping up your fitness or getting fit for your winter sport, WALA run a winter cross country season from April to August. See your Centre Manager for details and check out walittleathletics.com.au for news.

STATE CHAMPS

State Relay Championship Finishes 2011 in Style! On Sunday December 11, Little Athletes from all metropolitan centres descended on WA Athletics Stadium for the 2011 State Track & Field Relay Championships. There was a fan- tastic attendance for what was the final major event of the year. The grass banks and ma- jor grandstand were filled with spectators representing and supporting their centres. It all made for a great atmosphere for the Little Athletes to experience.

Melville LAC were awarded the boys & girls track trophy. Kingsway LAC took out the field trophy. Congratulations to all centre’s and a big thankyou to all volunteers, officials, athletes and families who made the day a great success. We all certainly look forward to the next State Championship event! CENTRE NEWS Bill and Betty Relay Night a Roaring Success

The Bill and Betty Allsopp Relay Night was held at Ern Clark Athletics Centre, the home ground for the Southern Stars, on 22 November 2011. The relay meet is an annual event run by Southern Districts Little Athletics Centre as a precursor to the WALA Relay Champi- onships. Once again, it was extremely well attended. Over 2000 people from 8 centres en- joyed a competitive night in excellent conditions. Congratulations to the Melville Roar team for taking out the Best Overall Team Trophy for the night. Also congratulations to the following teams for Meet Records set on the night:

Kingsway Under 15 Girls 4 x 400m: 4.14.07

Rockingham Under 13 Girls 4 x 100m: 52.45

UPCOMING EVENTS

Classic day of Athletics coming this February On Saturday February 11, the Little Athletics State Multi-Event Championships are on at the WA Athletics Stadium. To make the day even more special, the Perth Track Classic will commence after the Little Athletics competition.

It’s a fantastic opportunity for YOU to bring all of your family and friends to the event to cheer you on and then witness some of Australia’s athletics superstars compete just a few months before the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Among the stars lining up are IAAF Female Athlete of the Year and World Champion 100m hurdler, , Olympic Champion pole vaulter, , World Champion- ship silver medallist, Mitchell Watt, javelin star and former discus World Champion, Dani Samuels.

This is truly a fantastic chance for you to take part in Little Athletics in the morning and watch and learn from the athletics superstars in the afternoon. Make sure you mark Satur- day February 11 2012 on YOUR calendar!
