THE COUNTY OF (VARIOUS TOWNS AND VILLAGES IN THE DISTRICT OF EDEN) (CONSOLIDATION AND PROVISION OF SPEED LIMITS) ORDER 2021

1. The Cumbria County Council hereby give notice that it proposes to make the above Order under Sections 84(1) and (2) and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

2. The Order will come into operation on 12 June 2021 and its effect will be to consolidate the provisions of The County of Cumbria (Various Towns and Villages in the District of Eden) (Consolidation and Provision of Speed Limits) Order 2018 and introduce the following restrictions, into one concise order: -

The restrictions are as follows: -

(a) To introduce a new 30 mph speed limit through the following villages: - (i) Winton, ; (ii) Soulby, Kirkby Stephen; (iii) U3030 Catterlen (to replace the existing 40 mph); (iv) C3010 Low Hesket (to replace the existing 40 mph); and (v) U3453 Low Hesket (to replace the existing 40 mph) (b) To extend the following existing 30 mph speed limits:- (i) A685 Tebay – extension of approx. 75m south (to slow traffic in advance of the junction of the A685 and South Terrace); (ii) U3152 Stainton – extension of approx. 220m north (to include outlying properties and cycle facilities); (iii) C3015 Greystoke – extension of approx. 205m north (to include outlying properties); (iv) C1038 Armathwaite – extension of approx. 825m north (to include outlying properties). (v) B6412 Culgaith – extension of approx. 175m east ( to include outlying properties); and (vi) B6261 Orton – extension of approx. 220m east (to include outlying properties); (c) To introduce new 40 mph speed limits as follows:- (i) C3029 Beacon Edge, Penrith – 675 m length (to include outlying properties); and (ii) A689 Nenthall and Nentsberry – 2km length through Nenthall and Nentsberry; (d) To extend the following existing 40mph speed limit:- (i) A6 – extension of approx. 175m south (to include outlying properties)

4. If you wish to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or any instrument made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Order, you may within six weeks of 25 May 2021 apply to the High Court for this purpose.
