The Judicial Branch of Arizona in Maricopa County is seeking an accomplished and motivated Communications System Operator to join one of the largest, most innovative and progressive trial courts in the nation. ABOUT THE POSITION: The Communications System Operator plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of the probation department officers in the field by sending and receiving transmissions utilizing a multi-channel radio console while maintaining aided dispatch systems and other computer programs. This position is responsible for receiving, coordinating and disseminating critical information from various sources while maintaining radio contact with field units to monitor their location and send support as needed. The Adult Probation Communications Center does not receive 911 calls from the general public but monitors the safety of employees of the probation departments.

The Communications Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. You must be willing to work any and all assigned shifts in order to be considered for this position.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: We recognize your time is valuable, so please apply if you meet the following required qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or GED Certificate

Experience:

• One (1) year of public contact, customer service, multi-line operation, dispatch or two-way radio system experience.

OR

Combined education and experience qualifications:

• An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or work related experience may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.

The hiring process for this position may take two (2) to four (4) months to complete. Candidates will be required to have a complete background/reference check, polygraph and pre-employment psychological examination.

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS: • Maintains awareness of the status of field personnel and updates their status in the computer aided dispatch system. • Monitors emergency and general support radio frequencies. • Receives and transmits emergency and non-emergency calls to and from field units, supervisors, administration, support office personnel and other law enforcement agencies via radio, telephone, computer or other communication equipment. • Evaluates incoming radio or phone calls for proper action and initiates proper response. • Creates and maintains manual and/or computer automated records of communications activities. • Answers telephone calls from the general public and while providing excellent customer service to both internal and external customers. • Uses various computer systems for data entry, information retrieval and to generate memos, reports, correspondence, and distributes to appropriate sources.

Working conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak clearly and hear via radio and telephone; communicate via reading and writing; see details of objects that are less than a few feet away; distinguish colors; use hands to grasp, finger, handle or feel; and use foot controls. Exposure to angry callers may occur.

• Secured office environment. Must have the ability to work any and all shifts, as assigned based on the needs of the organization. • Shift differentials are available depending on assigned shift. The center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. • Shifts are determined by shift bid. Most employees will work five (5) x eight (8) hour days per week. • Shifts are 6 am - 2 pm, 12 pm - 8 pm, 2 pm - 10 pm, and 10 pm - 6 am.

SELECTION PROCEDURE: The Maricopa County Human Resources Department performs recruitment, assessment and other personnel functions on behalf of the Judicial Branch and its departments. The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified. Those selected will be assessed based on evaluation of listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a pool provided by Human Resources.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity and budgetary allowances.

All Judicial Branch offers of employment and continued employment are contingent upon passing a thorough background/fingerprint check. Applicants must completely and fully answer any questions regarding felony and misdemeanor convictions including any convictions that have been expunged or set aside. Judicial Branch facilities are located throughout Maricopa County. This position may be reassigned to other locations. Assignments will be made based upon the needs of the department.
