STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS 1995 No. 600 The Humberside (Structural Change) Order 1995 PART II THE CITY OF KINGSTON UPON HULL AND NEW DISTRICTS OF THE EAST RIDING OF YORKSHIRE, NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE AND NORTH EAST LINCOLNSHIRE Constitution of new districts of the East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire 3.—(1) A new district of the East Riding of Yorkshire shall be constituted and shall comprise the existing Humberside district areas of Beverley, East Yorkshire, and Holderness, and the areas of parishes which form part of the existing Humberside district of Boothferry and are listed in paragraph 1 of Schedule 1 to this Order. (2) A new district of North Lincolnshire shall be constituted and shall comprise the existing Humberside district areas of Glanford and Scunthorpe, and the areas of parishes which form part of the existing Humberside district of Boothferry and are listed in paragraph 2 of Schedule 1 to this Order. (3) A new district of North East Lincolnshire shall be constituted nd shall comprise the existing Humberside district areas of Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes. (4) Subject to article 16, there shall be new non-metropolitan district councils for the East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire, which shall be the transferee authorities for those districts, or part of districts, as provided for in this article. Existing local government areas 4.—(1) The existing county of Humberside and the existing Humberside districts of Beverley, Boothferry, Cleethorpes, East Yorkshire, Glanford, Great Grimsby, Holderness and Scunthorpe shall be abolished. (2) The County Council, Beverley Borough Council, Boothferry Borough Council, Cleethorpes Borough Council, East Yorkshire Borough Council, Glanford Borough Council, Great Grimsby Borough Council, Holderness Borough Council and Scunthorpe Borough Council shall be wound up and dissolved. Box 1346 Ann Arbor, Ml 48106-1346 UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON LIBRARY ABSTRACT This study examines place marketing as a planning tool for local authorities, focusing on the type of marketing designed to attract jobs and investment to an area. Two strands of research emerge from a literature review. Firstly a need to update a 1984 study of local authority marketing activity as place marketing has evolved and escalated since then, and secondly, a need to determine the outcomes from place marketing. A survey of local authorities revealed a 96.5 per cent involvement in place marketing activities in 1995 and an analysis of the same local authorities’ marketing brochures demonstrates both innovative and common approaches. These brochures also show that although many local authorities are operating an equal opportunities policy, these ideals are not filtering through to all aspects of their work.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE AREA 1.1 Physical process level 1.1.1 Classification One of the youngest natural coastlines of England is the Holderness Coast, a 61 km long stretch of low glacial drift cliffs 3m to 35m in height. The Holderness coast stretches from Flamborough Head in the north to Spurn Head in the south. The Holderness coast mainly exists of soft glacial drift cliffs, which have been cut back up to 200 m in the last century. On the softer sediment, the crumbling cliffs are fronted by beach-mantled abrasion ramps that decline gradually to a smoothed sea floor. The Holderness coast is a macro-tidal coast, according to the scoping study the classification of the coast is: 2. Soft rock coasts High and low glacial sea cliffs 1.1.2 Geology About a million years ago the Yorkshire coastline was a line of chalk cliffs almost 32 km west of where it now is. During the Pleistocene Ice Age (18,000 years ago) deposits of glacial till (soft boulder clay) were built up against these cliffs to form the new coastline.
