Girls aspiring to play for the Matildas will benefit from a NSW Government funded talent Sports Funding identification and youth development program to host Big Bash over the next three years.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro said an investment in 2021–22 of $750,000 by the NSW Government will ensure players from Regional NSW have the opportunity to showcase their skills in the lead up to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. That pathway from the country to the world stage is something we want to make possible for all young girls in regional NSW and this program will help make dreams come true. Focusing on girls aged between 12 to 18 years old, identified players will be supported through the provision of training camps and player support scholarships, with the added bonus of being tutored by current and former Matildas.

Albury has secured a $100,000 grant from the NSW Government to assist its efforts to host a Big Bash match at the redeveloped Lavington Sports Ground in 2021/22. It would be fantastic to bring the BBL to Albury to attract visitors, encourage spending in border communities and drive a stronger regional economy. Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said the NSW Government was enthusiastic to support Albury’s efforts to host the game. “The NSW Government was proud to invest in the completed upgrades to Lavington Sports Ground recently, making it a world-class regional sports hub. Regional Job Precinct During his March visit to Albury, Deputy Premier John Barilaro went with me to Ettamogah and the Nexus Industrial Precinct to announce the establishment of a Regional Job Precinct in Albury.
