It was the Miners’ ninth win of the season. Following losses to Gilbert Classical Academy and St. Gregory College Prep, the Miners’ overall record is even at 9 – 9, includ- ing 2 – 3 in section play. The Miners averaged only 23.5 points per game in the two losses after scoring 58 points against the Lynx. They’ll need offensive output similar to the game against the Lynx to have success in the second half of the season. They are 8 – 0 on the season when they score 46 points or more and 0 – 7 when scoring less than 40 points. By Andrew Luberda San Manuel Miner The San Manuel girls’ basketball team headed into the holiday breaks with a seven-game winning streak and ranked fifth in the state. The Miners were defeated by the Coolidge Bears in their first game of the San Manuel Holiday Classic tournament, 33- 22. The Miners rebounded to win their next three tournament games to start a new winning streak. After the holiday break, the Miners returned to action and defeated the Academy of Tucson and Gilbert Classical Academy before losing to St. Gregory College Prep. The Miners held the Academy of Tucson and Gilbert Classical Academy to a combined 17 points in the two victories. Angela Zuniga once again led the way for the Miners in the win over Gilbert Classical Academy on January 8, 2014. She had 32 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals. Analisa Robles added 10 points and 6 rebounds. Kadi Monfred had 8 points, 5 assists, and 6 steals. Freshman Ashley Vargas was a perfect 3 for 3 from the field and finished with 6 points.
