Mr. Leifert's Flag Football or One Touch Unit
Touch football is similar to regulation rugby and a modified form of American football, except that the ball carrier is stopped when his or her flag is taken from the defensive team or has been tagged with one hand. Tackling and blocking, as in regulation football, are eliminated. These modified rules lessen the danger of injury and encourage a more open game. The principal offensive weapon is the forward pass.
RULES:
Field: played on a regulation football field when available.
Players: a regulation team has 6 players (players in a PE class per team may vary)…. Three on the line, 2 wide receivers and 1 Quarterback.
No tackling. A play is dead when the ball carrier has a flag removed or tagged.
Huddles are mandatory after each play
Punts occur after each score, to begin the game, and the start of the 3rd quarter.
Use of hands: Players on the offensive team may not use their hands – i.e. stiff-arm. The defense may use their hands to push other players aside to make the touch, but not with any show of violence – PENALTY.
No player may leave his/her feet to pull a flag or tag a player. PENALTY
No player may leave his/her feet to make a block and no violent blocks can be made. PENALTY
First Down - 2 completed forward passes within a series of downs..
Forward Pass – must be made from behind the line of scrimmage and must go across the line(imaginary line that divides the offensive and defensive teams. Wide Receivers and Running Backs are eligible receivers but only 3 players may go out at a time.
Offsides – Players may not cross the line of scrimmage until the ball is centered. The defense must also make a mandatory 3 Mississippi count before they cross the lines unless it is a running play. Penalty
Blitz – Must be called out before the offense goes into set position. 1 blitz per series of downs (4). A Quarterback is allowed to run anytime a blitz is called.
Fumbled ball – there are no fumbles in flag/touch football. If the ball is dropped it is a dead ball and the play begins with a new down.
Scoring: Touchdown – 6 points
Extra Point - kicked after all touchdowns - worth 1 point
