REUTERS WORLD NEWS EXPRESS FAQS FOR SOFTWARE UPGRADE Q3/Q4 2009

Document Version 1 0 Date of issue: 16th August 2009 Introduction

The following FAQs are designed to address some common questions or issues which we expect customers may face when upgrading to WNE Version 4.1. If you cannot find the information you are looking for, please contact your support representative.

1. The software upgrade

Q. Will I lose content when I complete the upgrade? A. You will retain the content archive on the box when you upgrade. However, during the installation process, you will need to reboot the PC. Any items that are broadcast over the satellite during the reboot will be lost.

Q. Will my content directory structure change as a result of the upgrade? A. No. All the content output directories will be carried across during the upgrade to V4.1 and should work as before.

Q. What’s happened to my filedirect.ini file? A. The filedirect.ini file is no longer used. All of the parameters contained within it were ported across into V4.1 during the upgrade process and are contained within the Administration section of the WNE website. There are also a number of additional configuration parameters that can be adjusted from the Administration pages.

2. Playout

Q. I have just upgraded to V4.1 and now Playout won’t work. What is wrong? A. You need to reboot the PC after the install as V4.1 uses new Stradis drivers which will not be available until the PC is restarted.

Q. What is the difference between Playout and Preview video? A. Playout uses the Stradis Card installed on the WNE PC to playout the MPEG2 video files in broadcast quality. Only one video at a time can be played out, and all users of the WNE website will see the same video. Any requests to playout video will be queued up and played out in sequence. Preview video shows a low resolution file which is accessed via the public internet. Users of the WNE website can preview any video they require, , as long as they have an internet connection from their local desktop. Multiple users can preview different videos at the same time, prior to deciding whether to copy or playout the file in broadcast quality.

Q. I want to playout video in 16:9 format. Is there anything I need to do to be ready for the switch? A. Further information will be sent to you in advance of the switch to 16:9 to help you make the transition.

3. Help

Q. Why can’t I see the Online Help and Document Library through my WNE browser? A. The documents are hosted on the public internet so you need internet access from your local desktop (if WNE is networked) or from the WNE PC if you are using it directly. If you do not have internet access you will need PDF copies of the documentation which can be found on the WNE PC in the following location: C:\Program Files\SkyStream Networks\zBand Corporate Edition\Storage\Reuters Updates\WNE Client 4.1

4. Scripts

Q. What is happening with my Assyst feed? A. There is no change to your Assyst feed. It will continue to be delivered via the WNS decoder, directly into your Assyst PC.

5. Configuration

Q. How do I change my configuration settings to customise the display? A. You will need to login to the WNE website as the Administrator. If you do not have the Administrator login details, you should refer it to your onsite technical support contact.

Q. When I send videos and scripts into my editorial system it seems to cause problems with accessing the content via the WNE website. How can I resolve this? A. If you are trying to copy files into your editorial system from the E:\Reuters\video directory, this may be causing contention with the File Direct application which is accessing the same content to display within the WNE website. In V4.1 you can set up separate feed directories for moving content into your editorial system. Log in as the Administrator and select the File Direct tab on the Administration page. You can set a separate directory location for videos, scripts and advisories.

Q. I seem to be running out of disk space more quickly before the upgrade. I can only store about 5 days worth of content on the PC before it starts purging. What is happening? A. Check your directories to ensure you are not storing more data than you need. If you have set up new feed directories you will need to purge the data as you FTP it across to your editorial system, or copy it to a file share, otherwise you will be storing two copies of everything.

Q. My MAC address EMR is showing as ‘unknown’ in the File Direct tab of the Administration pages. What does that mean? A. If you are receiving your content via fiber/cable rather than satellite you will never see a MAC address entry next to the EMR. If you have a satellite feed and the EMR is showing as unknown, this means that File Direct cannot see the EMR and no new content can be processed. Check the EMR to make sure that it has not failed and is properly connected.

6. Maintenance

Q. Who is responsible for maintaining the WNE PC? A. Reuters supply and maintain the WNE PC and the WNE software installed on it. Clients are responsible for installing and maintaining anti-virus and security patches on the PC. They are also responsible for ensuring that the Service Pack stays in line with the version that Reuters recommends to run the WNE software.
