Guffey and Brister have been named as the winners of the Academic All-America® of the Year award in the University and College Divisions, respectively. A graduate student working on her Master’s degree in Human Development and Leadership, Guffey owns a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. in grad school. She graduated from Murray State with a degree in Health and Physical Education and a 3.97 G.P.A. A native of Albany, Kentucky, she is a three-year starter at guard for the Racers. She is the fifth-leading scorer in school history with 1,671 points and stands second on the Racers’ all-time list of assist leaders. A two-time All-Ohio Valley Conference selection, she led Murray State to the OVC championship in 2008 and was named as the OVC Tournament’s Most Valuable Player. As a senior, she is the second-leading scorer in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 20.3 average and ranks 15th nationally. She is also ranked 18th in the nation in free throw percentage (.876) and averages 5.1 assists per game, 37th in the nation.
