For Immediate Release // Wednesday, May 11, 2016 Pac-12 Contact // Natalia Ciccone ([email protected]) Washington Contact // Mike Bruscas ([email protected]) PAC-12 TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS CONTINUES THIS WEEKEND SAN FRANCISCO -- The Pac-12 Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Championships (86th annual for men, 30th annual for women) continues in Seattle on the campus of the University of Washington this Saturday and Sunday, May 14-15, with the running and feld events. UW is hosting the championships for the frst time since 1997. Tickets for the running and feld events on May 14-15 are available for purchase through the Washington Ticket Offce. The ticket offce is open from Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.PT. On the day of the meet, the ticket offce is located at Husky Ballpark next to the Soccer Facility. TEAM SCORES... ARIZONA’s Pau Tonnesen defended last year’s decathlon crown, winning the event in the opening weekend of the Pac-12 Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Championships held at Husky Track in Seattle. USC’s Amalie Iuel returned to the top of the podium this year, winning the heptathlon for the second time in three years, scoring the seventh-best score in Pac-12 history. Iuel dominated the feld, as the only competitor to break 6,000 points, she posted a personal-best 6,011 points. She won fve of the seven events over the course of the weekend, breaking the 1,000-point plateau four times. ARIZONA’S Alyssa Thompson was second with a score of 5,580. WASHINGTON STATE’s Liz Harper (5,564) was third overall in the heptathlon, COLORADO’s Abrianna Torres was fourth (5,440) and USC’s Lyndsey Lopes was ffth (5,277). In the decathlon, Tonnesen won four of fve events on the second day to take home the individual title for the second- straight year. OREGON had the second and third placers, Mitch Modin scoring 7,450 points to fnish ahead of team- mate Joe Delgado (7,341). WASHINGTON STATE’s Dino Dodig was fourth with 7,339 points, followed by UCLA’s Zack Bornstein, who tallied 7,289 points for ffth place. LAST YEAR IN PAC-12 TRACK & FIELD … For the seventh-consecutive year, the OREGON men and women swept the Pac-12 Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium on the campus of UCLA. The men’s squad claimed its ninth-straight title, while the women won their seventh in a row. The Duck women won a close com- - more - Pac-12 Track & Field Championships Page 3 petition, scoring a meet-high 185 points while the men scored 152 points. Individual recognition went to UO’s Jasmine Todd who was the Pac-12 Women’s Athlete of the Meet, tallying 35 points. USC’s Andre De Grasse was the Pac-12 Men’s Athlete of the Meet, scoring 22.5 points for the Trojans. The OREGON women held off USC who had the lead after the 200-meter race and only two events left. The Ducks quickly regained the lead after the 5000-meter race, and eventually won, 185-182. It was the closest margin of victory in the women’s competition since a 2.5-point win by ARIZONA STATE over STANFORD in 2006. On the men’s side, the Trojans also grabbed the lead after the 200-meter but lost the lead again after the Ducks scored 25 points in the 5,000 meters to regain the lead. The Trojans ended the meet with 121 points and WASHINGTON jumped ahead of UCLA in the fnal event to score 84.50 points, 1.5 points better than the host Bruins. ARIZONA STATE was ffth with 75 points, ARIZONA was sixth with 73.50 points, COLORADO was seventh with 68 points and CALIFORNIA was eighth with 66 points.
