Athena Award WOMEN’S BUSINESS CONFERENCE heroic endeavors, everyday lives lce TO THE 21 ST ANNUAL WOMEN’S BUSINESS CONFERENCE We are excited to celebrate women who are achieving excellence in their professions, serving the Dallas community lcein a meaningful way, and helping other women reach their full potential. This event provides opportunities to connect with and learn from those who are the best in their business. As we celebrate the “Athena” in each of us this year, we hope you gain a greater sense of purpose, learn skills to overcome obstacles, and are inspired by stories of empowerment. Today is about connecting with women who are on the same journey. Thank you f joining us! PRESENTED BY: HEROIC ENDEAVORS, EVERYDAY LIVES Welcome! As the Women’s Business Conference enters its third decade, we are proud that this has become the premiere women’s business event in the region. We want this to be an event that reverberates all year long. We do this by working hard to foster a sense of celebration, connection, empowerment and engagement – through our programming and speakers, and by recognizing ATHENA® and YPL ATHENA® Award winners who embody these characteristics. This year we’ve captured the spirit of Athena in our theme, “Heroic Endeavors, Everyday Lives.” The Greek goddess of wisdom, Athena was a master strategist with a calm temperament who fought for just reasons and created art with her hands and through her spirit in all that she accomplished. We celebrate the “Athena” in each of you, whether in the board room or the corner cubicle; in the spotlight or behind the scenes; in established companies or brave startups. Your heroic endeavor is what connects you and drives you. It’s what sets you apart and defines you. It’s what calls to you each day, and how you respond throughout life. To be an “Athena” is to be you, every day. Through storytelling, conversations and thoughtful exercises, today’s program will help you reflect on the heroic endeavors in your own lives, and challenge you to identify, define and embark on your personal and professional passages ahead. I’m so glad you are here with us today. Chief Operating Ocer/Chief Financial Ocer Dallas Regional Chamber @PPPri 1 To enhance and amplify the WBC experience this year, we have created a special, one-day marketplace to complement our conference and introduce attendees to special companies and services that seek to improve everyday life by creating balance in mind, body, and spirit. We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to explore our marketplace during your time with us today. 10:35 AM - 12:00 PM 12:00 - 12:35 PM #DRCWBC17 12:35 - 2:00 PM join @ crsati 2:00 PM 2 28, 2017 8:00 - 8:30 AM REGISTRATION AND BREAKFAST BUFFET 8:30 - 9:55 AM SESSION 1: HISTORY Welcome Remarks – Anna Trent Keynote: A Conversation with Judy Smith & Sara Madsen Miller Audience Question & Answer Session Table Conversation Presentation of Young Professional Leadership (YPL) ATHENA® Award 9:55 - 10:35 AM MARKETPLACE BREAK 10:35 AM - 12:00 PM SESSION 2: PRESENT Snapshot: Christy Nutter Table Conversation Snapshot: Sarah Carabias-Rush Stories from the Top: Hilda Galvan, Beth Garvey, Jeanne Phillips, Laysha Ward & Pat Priest Snapshot: Gabrielle Madison Remarks – Dale Petroskey, President & CEO, Dallas Regional Chamber 12:00 - 12:35 PM MARKETPLACE BREAK 12:35 - 2:00 PM SESSION 3: FUTURE Plated Lunch Served Presentation of ATHENA® Leadership Award Keynote: A Message from Nely Galán Audience Question & Answer Session Led by Hattie Hill 2:00 PM ADJOURN Program details subject to change 3 Judy A. • 1 Apologia Speech and Analysis: General Petraeus and CIA Scandal
1 Apologia Speech and Analysis: General Petraeus and CIA Scandal By: Lauralee Gilkey and Drusilla Muraibto Background On November 9, 2012 General Petraeus resigned from his position as Director of the CIA following a FBI investigation that revealed he had an affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell. Shortly after Petraeus resigned, it was revealed that the FBI had been investigating Petraeus for some time. There were concerns about possible security leaks, which have lead to further investigations. Petraeus was a four-star general who led the military through the Afghanistan and Iraqi wars. In 2010 he retired from the military after 37 years of service and assumed the position of director of the CIA. Paula Broadwell was a fellow West Point graduate, Harvard graduate and had served the U.S. Army for 15 years. The pair met in 2006 when Petraeus addressed Broadwell’s class at Harvard. Later, she approached him about composing a book based on his wartime leadership. He agreed and by 2010 he had granted her free access, including lodging at his base in Kabul when he took control of Afghanistan. The investigation started when harassment allegations had been made against Broadwell. Broadwell was suspected of sending emails to Jill Kelley, a family friend of Petraeus, accusing her of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with him. The investigation began with a warrant to search through Broadwell’s emails. There the FBI found details of Petraeus and Broadwell’s affair. Both Petraeus and Broadwell were interviewed separately by the FBI in October and admitted to the affair. Both Petraeus and Broadwell were married at the time of the affair.
