Cover photo: The winner of the Champion Pony of Show John Minogue, Co Clare. Photo by Marie O’Leary EDITORIAL Summer is behind us, the kids are back at school and the autumn is here. This summer was a busy one for Scariff with many memorable events such as the visit by President Michael D. Higgins, the Scariff Harbour Festival, the annual Scariff Horse Show, Scariff Community 10k Run and the highly enjoyable Strictly Come Dancing East Clare. Not to mention the success of our hurlers, camogie & rugby players and our young golfers. All these events and activities help to bring the communities of Scariff and East Clare together. Well done to all involved for putting your time and effort into making these events happen. It is great to see that the values of volunteerism and hard work are alive and fl ourishing in Scariff. This August the Community Council were delighted to launch the newly revamped community website www.scariff.ie. The Council commissioned web designer Mark O’Leary from Irish Web HQ, a small web design company based in Nenagh, to come up with a modern and fresh look for the website. Prior to engaging with Mark, there was a lot of consideration given to what the local community wanted to see on an updated version of www.scariff.ie. Many ideas, such as local news, having a business section on the site, using the site as a tourism platform to promote Scariff and East Clare and more, were looked at. The household survey, which the Community Council conducted last winter, proved to be a very worthwhile source of information in com- ing up with a plan for the design and contents of the website. The design of the Home Page of any website is a crucial factor to the subsequent success of the website as a whole, and how many new and repeat visits it gets. I think its fair to say Mark O’Leary has come up with a very professional and modern look, with excellent photos and video that showcase, at a glance, all that’s good about Scariff. Thank you to Eoin O’Hagan from clarevirtually.ie for providing the video and to pho- tographers Steve Ford Elliott, Marie O’Leary & Sean McInerney for the photography. The development of a new, modern and informative community website was a key aim of the current Community Council when it took offi ce a year and a half ago. It is great to see it go live. But that’s only the start. This is a website for you, the community. We want to hear what you think of it and any suggestions of how it can be improved or new features added to it. It can act as a great tool to connect Scariff people the world over and also to give potential visitors and tourists a snapshot of what Scariff is about and what we have to offer. So take a look, log on to www.scariff.ie and see what you think. Email us at info.scariff.ie if you have any comments or suggestions: we look for- ward to hearing from you. For more details on some of the features of the new website, see under the Community Council report on page 26 of this edition of Scariff News Niamh Wiley Scariff Community Council SCARIFF NEWS 3 NEWS IN BRIEF Congratulations...
