Help us reach our goal. Currently, we are approaching 40%! 2010 also saw Rookie of the Year Andrew Bailey join Strike 3. After spending the off season in Connecticut and seeing how hard both Craig and Joe work, I decided to commit my time as well. As the Director of Development I attempt to expand the impact of Strike 3. I recognize the good fortune I have been struck by, and the importance of giving back. Strike 3 Foundation Craig Breslow A Message from Craig My name is Craig Breslow, and I am a pitcher for the Oakland Athletics, a Yale graduate, and Founder and President of the Strike 3 Foundation. After establishing my career as a Major League relief pitcher, I decided to found Strike 3 in order to mobilize support, heighten awareness, and raise funding for pediatric cancer research. The impetus for this venture is my older sister Lesley, a 17 year pediatric thyroid cancer survivor. Although I have been privileged to have had a successful and healthy upbringing, I know that others are not nearly as fortunate. While I was traveling the country, and pitching against Derek Jeter, David Ortiz, and Ken Griffey Jr, far too many young children were stuck in hospital beds awaiting chemotherapy and other aggressive and debilitating treatments. After visiting a number of these children over the holidays last season with other members of the Foundation, I have decided to take on an even more aggressive campaign to bring the necessary funding and awareness to this devastating disease. Over the last two years, the Strike 3 Foundation has raised over $250,000 for leading pediatric cancer research centers. Included in this, is a 5 year cumulative pledge to Yale New Haven Children's Hospital as a founding sponsor of Connecticut's first pediatric bone marrow transplant center. Naturally, we are very excited about the prospects in treatment and convenience that this center entails. The Strike 3 Foundation is unique in that all of our directors and support are strictly voluntary. We are proud of our minimal overhead and efficiency. What started as a grass roots operation nearly 3 years ago has become a nation-wide, sustainable, organization, spearheaded by Chief Operating Officer Joseph Lizza, who has demonstrated a tireless and selfless commitment. The Strike 3 Foundation is currently looking to secure sponsors, auction items, and donations for its 3rd Annual First Pitch Celebrity Gala. The Gala is Strikes 3's signature fundraiser and in the past has attracted such celebrities as Hall of Fame baseball analyst Peter Gammons, UCONN Womens basketball coaches Geno Auriemma and Chris Dailey, Red Sox All-Star Nomar Garciaparra, 2009 AL Rookie of the Year Andrew Bailey, Minnesota Twins pitcher Kevin Slowey, Oakland A's Jack Cust, Vin Mazzaro, and Rajai Davis, WWE legend Hacksaw Jim Duggan, and Reggae superstar Shaggy. Specifically, I am calling upon your generosity in hopes that you may be a potential sponsor of this year’s First Pitch Celebrity Gala to be held on November 13, 2010 at the Stamford Hilton Hotel in Stamford, Connecticut. In addition to supporting a worthwhile cause, the First Pitch Gala brings important attention to your company, and cements your standing as a pillar of charity in our community. Sincerely, Craig Breslow Strike 3 Foundation Craig Breslow Registration Name:__________________________________________________ Company:______________________________________________ Address:________________________________________________ City, State, Zip:__________________________________________ Phone:_______________________Fax:_______________________

Jewish Baseball by Justice Robert E. Gordon The Jewish players in the major leagues are: 1. Ryan Braun, age 34, Milwaukee Brewers outfielder in a 12-year career. Ryan’s father was born in Israel and Ryan became the 24th player to combine 300-plus homers with 200-plus stolen bases. Ryan will eclipse Hank Greenberg’s 331 homeruns this year. He was nine short at the start of the year. 2. Alex Bregman, age 24, Houston Astros third-baseman, was named Most Valuable Player in the American League in the All-Star Game in 2018, and finished 5th for the American League Most Valuable Player Award. Alex was a first-round draft pick. 3. Richard Bleier, age 30, is a left-handed pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles in his third big-league season, and had a 1.93 ERA last year. He had season-ending surgery and is on the DL. 4. Max Fried, age 24, is a left-handed pitcher for the Atlanta Braves, and is a promising star with a low ERA and may be one of the best relief pitchers in baseball. Max is a former first-round draft pick. 5. Ty Kelly, age 29, was a star for Team Israel, but this infielder and outfielder has yet to show such promise for the New York Mets. 6. Ian Kinsler, age 36, had a terrific major-league career as a great second-baseman, but this should be his last year in the majors with the San Diego Padres. 7. Ryan Lavarnway, age 30, a catcher, was a star on Team Israel, but has yet shown such promise for the Pittsburgh Pirates and now with the New York Yankees.

  • A's News Clips, Wednesday, June 2, 2010 Oakland A's Pitching Staff Can't
A’s News Clips, Wednesday, June 2, 2010 Oakland A's pitching staff can't hold on to early 4-0 lead By Joe Stiglich, Oakland Tribune Gio Gonzalez couldn't hang on to a sizable early lead, but he wasn't solely responsible for the A's 9-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night. Tyson Ross (1-4) paved the way for Boston's go-ahead rally by issuing two walks, and fellow relievers Craig Breslow and Michael Wuertz also allowed a combined four runs. Indeed, there was no shortage of blame to pass around as the A's pitching staff, which has been front and center in the team's recent streak of good play, allowed 14 hits and nine walks in the opener of a three-game series at Fenway Park. "As a staff, we just didn't do a good job tonight," Wuertz said.
