  • Waldron Family History
WALDRON FAMILY HISTORY by Patrick J. M. Waldron, 55, Ard Coillte,, Ballina, Killaloe, Co. Clare, Ireland. Telephone: +353 87 2547230 Version 2.1 June 30, 2009 1 Origin of the Name Waldron The surname Waldron occurs in many parts of the world, but this paper con- centrates mainly on the history of the name in Ireland, where the modern name Waldron is used by several unrelated families with independent origins: 1. It is an anglicized surname for the descendants of Baildr´ınor Baldraithe MacCoisteala, who was of Norman descent and lived in the Barony of Costello in the east of County Mayo around the year 1300 (see below). Baildr´ınhas been translated ‘little Walter’. The Norman prefix de and the Gaelic prefix Mac have both been used by this family, reflecting the hibernicization of the Norman MacCoistealas and their descendants af- ter they settled in Mayo. The more usual forms of this family’s name in the Irish language nowadays are De Bhaldraithe and MacBhaildr´ın (MacLysaght 1985) (Molloy n.d.) (Comer and O´ Muraile 1986). 2. It is an anglicized form of MacBhalronta, an Irish patronymic assumed by the Wellesley family, who became established in County Meath in 1174 (MacLysaght 1985). The IGI [New York pages ?? and Ireland pages 28919–28923] (International Genealogical Index (IGI) 1988) for Ireland lists the following as alterna- tive names for this family: Walsey, Weasley, Welby, Wellesley, Willesby, Willoughby, Wilsey and Wolseley. 3. It was the surname of a 1609 immigrant from England, which was in turn derived from the Old-English forename Waleron or Waleran.

  • Tipperary News Part 6
Clonmel Advertiser. 20-4-1822 We regret having to mention a cruel and barbarous murder, attended with circumstances of great audacity, that has taken place on the borders of Tipperary and Kilkenny. A farmer of the name of Morris, at Killemry, near Nine-Mile-House, having become obnoxious to the public disturbers, received a threatening notice some short time back, he having lately come to reside there. On Wednesday night last a cow of his was driven into the bog, where she perished; on Thursday morning he sent two servants, a male and female, to the bog, the male servant to skin the cow and the female to assist him; but while the woman went for a pail of water, three ruffians came, and each of them discharged their arms at him, and lodged several balls and slugs in his body, and then went off. This occurred about midday. No one dared to interfere, either for the prevention of this crime, or to follow in pursuit of the murderers. The sufferer was quite a youth, and had committed no offence, even against the banditti, but that of doing his master’s business. Clonmel Advertiser 24-8-1835 Last Saturday, being the fair day at Carrick-on-Suir, and also a holiday in the Roman Catholic Church, an immense assemblage of the peasantry poured into the town at an early hour from all directions of the surrounding country. The show of cattle was was by no means inferior-but the only disposable commodity , for which a brisk demand appeared evidently conspicuous, was for Feehans brown stout.

Introduction 2. Tendering Instructions and Notes 3. Terms and Conditions of Tender Competition 4. Local Coillte Administrators - Contact Details 5. Listing of Available Licensed Areas 1. Introduction The hunting of game, deer and other quarry species are amongst the oldest form of forest recreation which continue to be legally enjoyed by many people across the country. Respecting the traditional nature of this activity and recognising the social, environmental and economic benefits’ which hunting can contribute, Coillte may permit certain types of hunting on their estate where it is deemed both compatible with forest management objectives, and where it is not considered to either compromise the safety of other forest users or negatively impact populations of quarry species. This, Coillte consider is in line with both the Companies Recreation Policy and Deer Management Policy, as well as supporting the principles of multiple-use forestry. All such hunting is managed and regulated through the issue of licences. The allocation of licences to hunt and shoot deer, game (and other quarry species) is undertaken by means of open public tender. Tender bids are invited for licensed areas as they become available, these bids are evaluated based on a Points Scoring System (available on the Coillte website) whereby cognisance is made of the annual fee offered, the applicants previous experience, their commitment to safety as well as environmental and other local interest considerations.
