JANUARY Conservative Wisconsin legislators — including a few Democrats — introduced an anti-marriage bill in late January. The bill, AB 753, would define marriage in the state of Wisconsin as a civil contract between one man and one woman, and would prohibit the recognition of same-sex marriages performed elsewhere. The bill's lead sponsor is Rep. Wayne Wood. Representing the 44th Assembly district, Wood is a Janesville-area Democrat. Most of the bill's other sponsors are Republicans, including some of the most consistently antigay members of the Seratti (R- Legislature, such as Lorraine Scott Evertz Spread Eagle) and Steve Nass (R- Whitewater).
