After all, she was the National Defensive Player of the Year by both the WBCA and 1,000program picked up its 1,000th victory Naismith last season without having high steals or blocks numbers. Her reputation for on-ball defense and pestering the Big 12 and the nation’s Dec. 1 in Tampa at South Florida. The Lady Bears top perimeter players earned her the awards. But, many might not know that Richards is one of Baylor’s all-time best passers. This season, she became the 15th Division I program to accomplish the feat. ranks first in the Big 12 in assists per game, which ranks 9th nationally. She ranks second in the league in total assists, and last season she was the Big 12 statistical champion, ranking 7th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio. Her 487 assists coming into Sunday’s game ranks 5th all- Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey has time on the Baylor career assists list. With COVID-19 looming, Richards may not get to put up the numbers she normally would have, but she has 663 made 663 appearances in the AP Top 25 combined as player at Louisiana Tech, an assistant a shot to leave Baylor at 3rd all-time in that category. Kristy Wallace collected 525 assists in her four years and ranks third.

Welcome to the White House, everybody. And congratulations to the Baylor Lady Bears on their undefeated season and second national championship. There are some proud Members of Congress who are here today. We've got a bunch of proud Texans in the house. [Laughter] I picked Baylor over Notre Dame, but I have to say, I wasn't the only one. It wasn't that hard. [Laughter] Because if there's one thing to describe this team, it was "dominant." Last season, the Lady Bears scored more points than any team in women's college basketball history. They became the first team ever—men's or women's—to win 40 games in a season. Now, this is not to say that success came easily. After a tough loss to Texas A&M in the Elite Eight last year, the Lady Bears decided they weren't going to go through that again. So they buckled down, they spent all summer in the gym, and they have not lost since: not to the Aggies and not to anybody else. [Laughter] So obviously, a lot of credit goes to Coach Kim Mulkey. This is Coach's fifth national championship—she just—she likes to win if you haven't noticed.
