***FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION***

After more than 30 years supporting pregnant people and their families in , and , Midwifery Care of Peel and Halton Hills has received support from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to separate into two practices. Effective June 1st, 2018 Midwifery Care of Peel and Halton Hills will separate into Midwifery Care of Brampton and Halton Hills and Midwives of Mississauga (MoM)!

The launch of MoM will allow us greater opportunity to support our growing community by aligning our future growth with the Mississauga-Halton LHIN priorities and the demographic needs of the city. As part of our new focus, we plan to provide outreach – and ultimately greater access to midwifery care – for non-English speaking communities, French-speaking communities, new immigrants and people of colour. To support this goal, we are prioritizing targeted recruitment of midwives with Chinese language, Punjabi and Urdu language skills, as well as midwives who identify as people of colour and/or have lived immigrant experience.

MoM will continue providing supportive, evidence-based care to people with low-risk, normal pregnancies during the pregnancy, birth and first six weeks postpartum. We are thrilled to continue to offer families a choice of birthplace – either at home, or in hospital at Trillium Health Partners Credit Valley or Mississauga Hospital sites. Our catchment area includes Mississauga, Milton and Etobicoke (west of the 427), specifically:

Starting at Hwy 427 and Lakeshore Ave in Etobicoke, north on Hwy 427 to Steeles Ave. Steeles Ave West following the border line between Mississauga and Brampton (which once outside of Malton/Mississauga more closely follows Hwy 407). Continuing west along the 407 to the point where Hwy 407 and Hwy 401 cross in northwest Mississauga. Then following Hwy 401 west through Milton to Hwy 25. Hwy 25 south to Steeles Ave. Steeles Ave west to Tremaine Rd. Tremaine Rd south to Britannia. Britannia Rd East to Hwy 407. Hwy 407 south to the junction with Hwy 403, then continuing south along Ninth Line to Royal Windsor Dr. East along Royal Windsor Dr to Winston Churchill Blvd, then south on Winston Churchill Blvd to the Lake.
