NEHRU’S ‘THE DISCOVERY OF INDIA’ 157 Nehru’s ‘Discovery of India’ The Role of Science in India’s Development Science should unite and not break-up India ‘I love India, not because I have had the chance to be born on its soil but because she has saved through limitless ages the living words that have issued from the illuminated consciousness of her great sons’. So wrote our great poet Rabindranath Tagore several years ago but few among the modern generation of intelligent youth have bothered to get even a glimpse of what that glorious heritage of India was. Valmiki, Vyasa, Kalidasa and Bhavabhuthi are just names. The masses of India, however, are better informed, Rama¯yana and Maha¯bharatha have impressed on their mind the oneness of India. Every village, at least till recently, had a Bhajan Mandal where the entire village would participate. Pilgrimages were undertaken with great religious fervour to holy places like Varanasi, Gaya, Rameswaram, Dwarka, Puri and Haridwar, Badrinath and Amarnath. These inculcated in the minds of the people the vastness and variety of their homeland and welded them as one human entity. This tradition of unity and integrity of the country is being destroyed by the self-serving politicians jockeying for power and sowing seeds of hatred in an otherwise peaceful population. Science has barely tried to perpetuate this unifying influence. ‘The Discovery of India’ by Nehru When my mind was deeply distressed at the present state of the country, I was drawn to a review of the book ‘The Discovery of India’, a recent edition of which has been brought out by the Penguin publishers.

  • Pt. Bansi Dhar Nehru Was Born in 1843 at Delhi
The firm foundation of the Mughal empire in India was laid by a Uzbek Mongol warrior Zahiruddin Mohammand Babar, who was born in 1483 in a tiny village Andijan on the border of Uzbekistan and Krigistan after defeating the Sultan of Delhi Ibrahim Lodi in the battle of Panipat which took place in 1526, The Rajputs soon thereafter under the command of Rana Sanga challenged the authority of Babar, but were badly routed in the battle of Khanwa near Agra on 16th March, 1527. Babar with a big army then went upto Bihar to crush the revolt of Afgan chieftains and on the way his commander in chief Mir Baqi destroyed the ancient Ram Temple at Ayodhya and built a mosque at that spot in 1528. Babar than returned back to Agra where he died on 26th December 1530 dur t o injuries received in the battle with Afgans in 1529 at the Ghaghra’s is basin in Bihar. After Babar’s death his son Nasiruddin Humanyu ascended the throne, but he had to fight relentless battels with various rebellious chieftains for fight long years. The disgruntled Afghan chieftains found Sher Shah Suri as an able commander who defeated Humanyu in the battle of Chausa in Bihar and assumed power at Delhi in 1543. Sher Shah Suri died on 22nd May 1545 due to injuries suffered in a blast after which the Afghan power disintegrated. Hymanyu then taking full advantage of this fluid political situation again came back to India with reinforcements from Iran and reoccupied the throne at Delhi after defeating Adil Shah in the second battle of Panipat in 1555.

Since pilgrimage is an integral part of Indian culture and has significant participation, pilgrimage sites and centres are being used by political and corporate organisations to communicate specific messages. The political relevance of religion in our contemporary world cannot be disputed, particularly in the context of a growing consumerist culture and the divisive tactics of most political organisations. In such a scenario, pilgrimage traditions and centres are periodically taken over by political groups.

  • Ramayan Ki Kathayen, Pandemic and the Hindu Way of Life and the Contribution of Hindu Women, Amongst Others
Hindu Sevika Samiti (UK) Mahila Shibir 2020 East and South Midlands Vibhag FOREWORD INSPIRING AND UNPRECEDENTED INITIATIVE In an era of mass consumerism - not only of material goods - but of information, where society continues to be led by dominant and parochial ideas, the struggle to make our stories heard, has been limited. But the tides are slowly turning and is being led by the collaborative strength of empowered Hindu women from within our community. The Covid-19 pandemic has at once forced us to cancel our core programs - which for decades had brought us together to pursue our mission to develop value-based leaders - but also allowed us the opportunity to collaborate in other, more innovative ways. It gives me immense pride that Hindu Sevika Samiti (UK) have set a new precedent for the trajectory of our work. As a follow up to the successful Mahila Shibirs in seven vibhags attended by over 500 participants, 342 Mahila sevikas came together to write 411 articles on seven different topics which will be presented in the form of seven e-books. I am very delighted to launch this collection which explores topics such as: The uniqueness of Bharat, Ramayan ki Kathayen, Pandemic and the Hindu way of life and The contribution of Hindu women, amongst others. From writing to editing, content checking to proofreading, the entire project was conducted by our Sevikas. This project has revealed hidden talents of many mahilas in writing essays and articles. We hope that these skills are further encouraged and nurtured to become good writers which our community badly lacks.

Following the 1989 Begley & Desai book Taj Mahal: an Illustrated Tomb, the flourish of scholarship that would expectedly follow a complete epigraphical catalog never arrived. Despite being well-known and universally cherished as indicated by the Taj Mahal’s recognition as a UNESCO world heritage monument and as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, there is insufficient research directed towards the inscription program specifically.

  • Title: Need to Introduce an Additional Train Between Rameswaram and Chennai Egmore
an> Title: Need to introduce an additional train between Rameswaram and Chennai Egmore. SHRI A. ANWHAR RAAJHAA (RAMANATHAPURAM): Hon. Chairman, Sir, I am thankful to you for giving me this opportunity to raise a matter of urgent public importance. Rameswaram is one of the famous pilgrimage cities in the South India after Varanasi. Everyday, thousands of people are coming to Rameswaram from all over the country as also abroad. But there is no direct day time express train to Rameswaram from the North India. The pilgrims and tourists from the North have to de-board at Chennai and again board another train to Rameswaram and vice-versa. The main occupation and income of the people in these areas is fishing; and it is very difficult to export these catches to other parts of the country and to abroad due to lack of a day time express train to Chennai. A special variety of prawn is generally exported abroad from Rameswaram, which earns more foreign exchange to India even without sufficient train facilities. Hence I would request the hon. Railway Minister to introduce a day time express train to Rameswaram from Chennai. Sir, at Mandapam railway station, the ticket reservation counter was closed before the broad gauge conversion. But after the conversion, the reservation counter at Mandapam railway station has not been reopened yet.
