Meet the Buyer Workshop 2017 TOURISM NI STAFF Meet the Buyer Workshop 2017 #MeetTheBuyer17 Northern Ireland Tourism Industry Meet the Buyer Workshop 2017 Meet the Buyer 2017 I am delighted to welcome you to the Meet the Buyer workshop in Northern Ireland to experience first-hand why this compact destination is experiencing increased visitor demand. We are grateful to our partners Tourism Ireland who have built up relationships with our visiting buyers in market, and we are delighted to see so many returning to discover more, as well as welcoming many new faces. Tourism in Northern Ireland is a fast developing success story and is on its way to becoming a £1 billion pound industry by 2020. We continue to gain accolades in leading publications across the globe as a must see destination. Our visitor experiences include the world’s leading tourist attraction, Titanic Belfast, outstanding golf, and a screen tourism offering linked to the world’s most popular television show Game of Thrones®. All of this sits alongside our built heritage, culture, beautiful landscapes, and exhilarating activities and has led to record visitor numbers in recent years. In 2016 we delivered the Year of Food and Drink which was a resounding success. Going forward we are delighted that we continue to see exciting new tourism products coming on stream, including Hillsborough Castle, HMS Caroline and the Seamus Heaney Homeplace, all of which are now open to the public. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for attending the workshop and hope that Northern Ireland’s visitor offering inspires you and provides a building block on which we can spread the news about what we have to offer the world. Tourism and its associated industries support substantial employment and make an important contribution to gross domestic product (GDP). Despite consistently strong growth in recent years, with record breaking figures reported in Northern Ireland in 2017, the government recognises that there are concerns regarding the levels of Value Added Tax (VAT) and Air Passenger Duty (APD) and the effects that these taxes may be having on the industry in the specific circumstances of Northern Ireland.
