The primary aim of the Loyola University Library•s Archives is to collect and preserve manuscripts pertaining to the Loyola community, the Society of Jesus, and the history of Louisiana and the South. In particular the Archives seeks the papers of those persons and organizations who have had great influence on the history of the City of New Orleans and reflect the activity of Loyola in the community. As such, the papers of Moon Landrieu, a Loyola alumnus and past Mayor of New Orleans, are considered one of the Archive•s most valuable holdings. The purpose of this guide is to indicate the contents of the Moon Landrieu Collection. The papers were received in a subject-caption arrangement and have been maintained in that state. For the convenience of the researcher and general reader the papers have been divided into eight series according to record type.

The first series deals with correspondence and is broken into fourteen sub~

~ series ranging from personal correspondence through transportation. These sub series are arranged alphabetically by subject caption and then chronologically. ) The second series is a chronological arrangement of general correspondence . The third series is made up of financial correspondence. The fourth contains legal documents. Series five contains financial records . The sixth series is made

~ up of various public speeches and remarks. The seventh series addresses evalua

tions, goals, plans, projects, reports~ and studies. The eighth series contains bulletins, ' minutes, newsletters, newsre1eases,/ and proceedings The arrangement of series three to eight is alphabetical by subject caption, then chronological.

I The accessioning, arrangement, inventorying, description, indexing, and publication of this finding-aid would not have been possible without the efforts of many individuals. I would like to acknowledge the assistance and valuable advice of Mark Flynn; the indefatigable energies of Harriet Stern who assisted in the beginn ings of this work; the University Library for their interest in the Moon Landrieu Collection and the University Administration.
