Hope International University Spring New Student Orientation Schedule Tuesday, January 20 9:00am Early Check-In Student Center For those students that need to meet with Financial Aid and/or Student Accounts, please plan to arrive at 9:00am to check-in and begin the orientation process. This will give you enough time to meet with Financial Aid and/or Student Accounts and get through the rest of the check-in process. You will be contacted by Student Financial Services if you need to arrive at 9:00am. 10:00am Check-In and Move In* Student Center Mandatory for all students. Get checked in, receive your parking pass, receive keys to your room, and verify that all business of becoming a student is settled. 12:00pm Lunch The Commons Enjoy lunch in the cafeteria. 1:00pm President’s Welcome* The Santa Ana Room Mandatory for all students. Come hear from our President, Dr. John Derry, as we kick off orientation activities for 2015. 1:30pm Barnabas Group* Various Locations Students Only. Mandatory for all students. Meet your Barnabas Leader and the rest of your small group. You’ll be meeting with your small group for the rest of the semester. 1:30pm Just For You: Family Orientation The Christensen Room Parents and Families Only. This session is design just for parents and families of college students. Come learn about the unique challenges and transitions you may experience as you send your student to college. 2:30pm Student Life Orientation* Lambda Lounge Students Only. Mandatory for all students. This session, designed for our new students, will introduce you to the Student Affairs staff as well as the many opportunities you have to get involved on campus, as well as other important information you need to know about being a student at HIU. 2:30pm Coffee Hour: Families Only ISP Lobby Parents and Families Only. During this time, you will have the opportunity to hear from Professor Sirvent about what students from HIU have and are accomplishing after they’ve graduated from HIU. You will also have the opportunity to mingle with President, Dr. John Derry, VP for Academic Affairs, Dr. Paul Alexander, and VP for Student Affairs, Dr. Mark Comeaux. 3:30pm Closing Celebration* The Santa Ana Room Mandatory for all students. Spend time in worship and hear from our Campus Pastor, Bryan Sands, and once again from Dr. Derry as he makes closing remarks. 5:00pm Dinner The Commons All are welcome to stay for dinner in the cafeteria before heading to the basketball games! You’ll receive a meal ticket at check-in if you plan on staying. 5:30pm/7:30pm Pack the Gym: Basketball Game Gymnasium Come watch our men’s and women’s basketball teams as they play against Vanguard University. This ends the family portion of New Student Orientation. Wednesday, January 21 9:00am My Academic Home: Meet the Deans* The Hub/Activity Room Mandatory for all students. Enjoy breakfast on us at our campus coffee shop, The Royal Hub. Then hear from the VP of Academic Affairs, Dr. Paul Alexander, as he goes over important information about your academic career at HIU. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet the Dean of your college! 9:30am Academic Advising/Registration Advisor Offices *By appointment time* *Required for those that have not yet registered for classes* If you have not registered for classes, you will sign up for an advising appointment during check-in for this time frame. 10:30am Career Services Open House Career Services Office Are you looking for a job on campus? Stop by the Career Services Office (second floor of the Student Center) to find out about job openings on campus, fill out a student worker application, learn how to use the online job portal, and enjoy some Hot Chocolate! 1:00pm Give Hope: Service Project Off Campus Mandatory for all students. Giving back to our community is important to all of us at HIU. Spend the afternoon serving with a local organization, your Barnabas Group, and your Barnabas Group Leader. 7:00pm Bus leaves for Ice Skating Titan Lot Need a ride to the ice-skating rink? Make sure to head out to the Titan Lot to catch a ride on the bus. 7:30pm Ice-Skating KHS Ice Arena Enjoy a wintery night ice-skating with the HIU Community! Thursday, January 22: Classes Begin 7:45am First Day Donuts PCWA Plaza We want to celebrate your first day of classes and make sure you know where you are going to get there on time. Stop by the tables in the PCWA Plaza for a free donut, take a first day of school photo, and ask any questions you have about your classes and their locations! 9:30am Chapel Pacific Auditorium Mandatory for all students. Your first official chapel at HIU! Come spend time in worship and hear from a great speaker! Make sure to bring your student ID so you can scan in, attendance will be taken. 9:00pm Link Lambda Lounge Join the Residence Life team at this weekly event completely put on by students. Hang out with other students, spend time in worship, and hear a great message. Friday, January 23 12:00pm Java Jam The Commons Lunch in the cafeteria will never be the same again as you’ll get to enjoy the musical talent of our very own HIU students. .
