A better for a brighter future

HEAD OF JUNIOR A WELCOME FROM THE HEAD

Welcome to Kensington School and thank you for your interest in our Head of Junior School position. Founded in 1966 we are one of the oldest British curriculum in Spain and our values and ethos have changed little in over fifty years. We are fully authorised and regularly visited by inspectors from the National Association of British Schools in Spain on behalf of the British Council. Kensington School follows a ‘pure’ British curriculum and is therefore able to dedicate all of its time to subjects within the National Curriculum for England and Wales. We remain a family run school, with the founder's sons, all of whom were educated at Kensington, ensuring we continue to thrive as a happy, purposeful and dynamic community. Although we are academically non-selective, we achieve remarkable examination results at both GCSE and Advanced Level. This is due to the dedication of our teachers, in addition to the small class sizes which allow pupils of all abilities to develop their full potential. Our student body is very international, and it is a joy to see children from around the world coming together each day to take advantage of everything Kensington School has to offer. We provide a quality education from Nursery to on one site therefore the transition from Primary to Secondary is seamless.

Kensington students gain access to prestigious all around the world with the majority reading for degrees in the . A recent change in the Spanish law now enables those with British Advanced Levels direct access to Spanish universities. At Kensington School our pupils feel relaxed, secure and valued. They are prepared for the ever-changing demands of our modern global society. We look forward to showing you why we are so proud of our Kensington family.

Mr. Michael Bayes, Headmaster THE JUNIOR SCHOOL

We are proud to offer the full British curriculum starting from Early Years through to Junior 6 (ages 3 – 11) with a maximum class size of just 20 pupils. Catering for an international community, English is the predominant language that children and staff communicate in. This enables pupils to master the language quickly through both academic study and social interaction. We offer daily language development classes in small groups to further assist those with English as an additional language. All children throughout Key Stages 1 and 2 are taught a full range of subjects by enthusiastic and experienced teachers. Mathematics and English are studied on a daily basis, and science, history and geography two to three times a week. Art, music and ICT are also timetabled and we are very proud of the contribution that Junior School pupils make through the variety of artwork on display throughout the school. The Junior School is based within the main school building and our pupils benefit from enjoying all their learning on one site. The Junior School complements the Senior School well, in fact most of our pupils progress onto Form 1 and beyond and many are the siblings of pupils higher up in the school. As such, we are all part of the Kensington community and it is a pleasure to see pupils of all ages together within the school. Whilst they share the grounds, the timetable for the Junior School allows for playtimes not to clash and use of the communal spaces takes into account the different age ranges within the school. Indeed, the pupils have their own play area separate from other pupils. In addition to this, all classrooms enjoy the use of a patio terrace area and it is not uncommon for lessons or specific project work to be done outdoors. The Junior School also holds a strong reputation for our theatrical productions, boasting previous successes such as ´The Lion King’, ‘Seussical’ and ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’. Our Christmas and Summer productions ensure children have the opportunity to develop their artistic talent and performance skills. “Kensington School - a friendly and inviting community of hard-working pupils and teachers”
