BARBARA LITERACY FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES TWO NEW BOARD MEMBERS Honorable Rodney Ellis and Tony Canales to join prestigious organization

HOUSTON – The Houston Literacy Foundation (Foundation) is pleased to announce the appointment of two new boards members, The Honorable Rodney Ellis with the Harris County Commissioners Court Precinct 1, and Tony Canales, President and General Manager of Houston.

“We are pleased to welcome Tony Canales and Rodney Ellis to our esteemed Foundation Board of Directors to help accelerate our efforts to advance Mom’s indelible legacy and the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation’s mission of helping more people learn how to read,” said Neil Bush, Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation Co-Founder and Chairman. “These two highly-respected leaders are bright in our community who exemplify a commitment of serving others and make Houston a vibrant place to live, work and thrive. Their visionary leadership, expertise and passion for changing lives will, undoubtedly, broaden, strengthen and deepen the impact of the Foundation.”

Tony Canales has served as the President and General Manager of Telemundo 47 Houston / KTMD, the NBCUniversal-owned that serves Spanish-language viewers in the Houston market, since 2012. Prior to joining Telemundo, Canales served as Vice President and General Manager for the Azteca America Houston affiliate, KYAZ, from 2010 to 2012. He also worked at Communications for over nine years, holding various positions including Vice President and General Manager of KWEX and KNIC in . Canales formerly served on the Foundation’s Corporate Advisory Council.

The Honorable Rodney Ellis is the Harris County Commissioner for Precinct 1. Prior to becoming the County Commissioner in 2017, Ellis served three terms on the before he was elected to the Senate in 1990, where he represented Texas’ 13th state senate district for 26 years. Born and raised in Houston’s Sunnyside neighborhood, Ellis has dedicated more than 30 years as an American politician and has played a critical role in Texas legislature.
