Established in 1955, The Fellows encourage and support the research program of the American Bar Foundation. The American Bar Foundation works to advance justice through research on law, legal institutions, and legal processes. Current research covers such topics as access to justice, diversity in the legal profession, parental incarceration and its effects on children, how global norms are produced for international trade law, African Americans’ participation in law at the local level from the Civil War to the beginnings of the modern civil rights movement, lawyers’ political mobilization in the Chinese criminal justice system, end of life decision-making, and investment in early childhood education.
