From Cardiff, Bristol, A470 and the East
Leave the M4 at junction 33 (Cardiff West).
Take the southbound A4232 for about 2 miles. Ignore the small slip road for the Museum of Welsh Life, and take the exit at the large Culverhouse Cross junction.
Keep in the right hand lane as you approach the roundabout and follow the signs for the A48 West for Cowbridge. Negotiate a plethora of traffic lights on the roundabout, taking the 4th exit for Cowbridge. Straight across a further set of traffic lights (Tesco and M&S on the right and the Copthorne Hotel on the left). The A48 then widens as it climbs a moderate hill. [Watch out for mobile speed cameras from this point onwards]
Through St Nicholas (30mph) and then Bonvilston (40 mph). Between St Nicholas and Bonvilston there is a new set of traffic lights. Carry on straight through them.
About 2 miles after leaving Bonvilston, you’ll see a large radio mast on the right. About 1 mile further on, there is an Indian restaurant on the left called the Mughal Emperor, take the left slip road at that point signposted Cowbridge / Y Bont Faen.
Down the hill, entering a 30 mph zone.
At the traffic lights, turn right (Aberthin Road / A4222).
Follow the road for a mile through Aberthin, then another mile through Maindy (30mph) after a short stretch of 40mph road there is a 30mph sign just before a hump-back bridge which is where you enter Ystradowen. The White Lion pub is on your left. Immediately after the pub, turn left into the pub car park The village hall is behind the pub.
From Swansea and the West (& Bridgend)
Leave the M4 at junction 37 (Porthcawl/Pyle). Turn left at the roundabout under the motorway. Then turn right at the next roundabout in about half a mile, taking the A48 towards Bridgend.
Follow the A48 for about 6/7 miles, over several roundabouts, bypassing Bridgend and picking up the signs for Cowbridge. Keeping on the A48, about a further 6/7 miles leaving Bridgend, the exit for Cowbridge is signposted left.
Follow the slip road into Cowbridge into the High Street. Pass all the shops and at the end of the town (nearly a mile from the slip road) there is a set of traffic lights. Turn left (Aberthin Road / A4222).

Note: some people have found it easier to continue along the M4, exiting at junction 33 and then following the directions above.
