(A képet NASA/JPL-Caltech bocsátotta közre) Csillagászati évkönyv 2005 7 Bevezető Bevezető Kötetünkben a csillagászat legújabb eredményeinek szokásos összefoglalása mellett néhány dinamikusan fejlődő témáról részletesebb képet is kaphat az Olvasó. A legmodernebb csillagászati műszerek, a számítástechnika és az ész­ leléstechnika, valamint az űrkutatás számos részterület fejlődésére gyakorolt forradalmi hatást. Ezek közül az idei évkönyvben az asztrobiológia áttekinté­ se; a fiatal csillagok körüli por- és gázkorongok vizsgálatának eredményei; a bolygórendszerek dinamikai fejlődésében fontos keringési rezonanciák bemu­ tatása és a még mindig sok tekintetben titokzatos gammakitörések kutatásá­ nak összefoglalása kapott helyet. 2005-ben ünnepeljük Kulin György születésének századik évfordulóját. Az ő szervező és ismeretterjesztő munkásságának folytatását tekinti céljának egye­ sületünk, és ennek szellemében készül a Csillagászati évkönyv is. A 20. század legismertebb magyar csillagászának életművét foglalja össze kötetünk egyik cikke. A múlt század másik nagy csillagász egyéniségétől, a 2003-ban elhunyt Dezső Lóránttól munkásságának rövid ismertetésével veszünk búcsút. A Magyar Csillagászati Egyesület honlapján (www.mcse.hu) a Bemutat­ kozunk menüpontra, majd a következő lapon a Kiadványok alcím alatt az évkönyvet említő sorra kattintva lehet eljutni az évkönyv honlapjára (év­ könyv .mese . hu). Ott az egyesület által kiadott kötetek rövid ismertetője, tar­ talomjegyzéke és kiadási adatai találhatók. A látogató a még kapható kötete­ ket meg is rendelheti. A megjelent kötetek tematikusai: rendezett, összefog­ laló tartalomjegyzéke segíti a hírek, cikkek helyének megtalálását, a célzott információkeresést. A honlapon olvasható anyagot folyamatosan fejlesztjük, bővítjük. A már elfogyott évfolyamok cikkeit és beszámolóit fokozatosan hoz­ záférhetővé tesszük a honlapon, hogy azok az új érdeklődők is elolvashassák, akiknek jelenleg nincsen módjuk a köteteket megvásárolni. Használati útmutató 8 Csillagászati évkönyv 2005 Használati útmutató Az évkönyv első felében kaptak helyet a naptári alapadatok, havonkénti csoportosításban: a Nap és a Hold keltének és nyugtának időpontja, a hónap fontosabb csillagászati eseményei, a bolygók láthatósága, a hónap csillagos ég­ boltja. Ezt követik azok az információk, amelyek csillagászati számításokhoz és az amatőr észlelők munkájához szükségesek: a Nap, a Hold és a bolygók koordinátái és fizikai adatai, valamint a különféle segédtáblázatok. Végül pe­ dig a speciális észlelési területeken használható előrejelzéseket és adatokat találjuk: fogyatkozásokról, fedésekről, kisbolygókról, meteorrajokról, üstökö­ sökről és egyéb témákról. A táblázatok és adatok Magyarország közepes föld­ rajzi koordinátáira vonatkoznak: földrajzi hosszúság: A = +19?0 földrajzi szélesség: <p = + 47‘.’5 Minthogy hazánk kiterjedése nem nagy, az évkönyv táblázatai jó közelítés­ sel használhatók az egész ország területén. A Föld forgásával kapcsolatos idő­ adatoknál a földrajzi hosszúságban mért egy fok különbség 4 időperc eltérést jelent. A kelési, delelési és nyugvási időpontok esetében tehát a 19" hosszúsági körtől keletre fokonként négy percet le kell vonni a táblázat időadatából, nyu­ gat felé pedig ugyanennyit hozzá kell adni. Pontos észleléseknél természetesen ezeket az eltéréseket megfelelő számításokkal kell figyelembe venni. Az időpontadatok többsége világidőben (UT) szerepel, az egyéb számérté­ kek pedig általában a megadott napon

    Sixteenth Marcel Grossmann Meeting Contribution ID: 967 Type: Talk in the parallel session The hypergiants VY Canis Majoris, Eta Carinae, V766 Centauri and the red supergiants Betelgeuse, Antares and Aldebaran in the 2.5K SGQ AAVSO database Thursday, 8 July 2021 16:35 (7 minutes) I observe variable stars since 1997. The “candidacy” of Mira Ceti as Betlehem Star because close to Jupiter- Saturn triple conjunction of 6-7 b.C. started at Pontifical University of Lateran and continued in Yale (2001- 2004). Maxima correlation function ruled out Mira for having two consecutive bright maxima, but this prop- erty was confirmed in the “oldest” Myra-type: R Leonis, R Hydrae and Chi Cygni, from their almostfour- century-long lightcurves. To a bright maximum normally a dim one follows, as the correlation function of their consecutive maxima shows. These studies were supported by historical and personal visual observations. Since 2011 I observe firstmag- nitude variable stars, with airmass correction to reach 0.01 magnitudes accuracy with naked eye. AAVSO observer Sebastian Otero first claimed this accuracy, as for NovaCentauri 2013, observed by me fromPorto Alegre and Rio de Janeiro. Betelgeuse’s 801 observations in 10 years, include the deep minimum of 2020. My SGQ contributions to AAVSO-database, paralleled with Betelgeuse’s V-band measurements, help to define the “personal equations” present in all 25M visual observations before CCD era (1911-on) going back to 1893 for Betelgeuse. The temporal extension of lightcurves is crucial to understand the stellar behaviour. More complicate cases are Antares and Aldebaran, less variable and with distant comparison stars.

It is an excellent tool that allows the parents to be a part of the learning experience.     Abasic requirement for studying the heavens is determining where in the sky things are. To specify sky positions, astronomers have developed several coordinate systems. Each uses a coordinate grid projected on to the celestial sphere, in analogy to the geographic coordinate system used on the surface of the Earth. The coordinate systems differ only in their choice of the fundamental plane, which divides the sky into two equal hemispheres along a great circle (the fundamental plane of the geographic system is the Earth's equator) . Each coordinate system is named for its choice of fundamental plane. The equatorial coordinate system is probably the most widely used celestial coordinate system. It is also the one most closely related to the geographic coordinate system, because they use the same fun­ damental plane and the same poles. The projection of the Earth's equator onto the celestial sphere is called the celestial equator. Similarly, projecting the geographic poles on to the celest ial sphere defines the north and south celestial poles. However, there is an important difference between the equatorial and geographic coordinate systems: the geographic system is fixed to the Earth; it rotates as the Earth does . The equatorial system is fixed to the stars, so it appears to rotate across the sky with the stars, but of course it's really the Earth rotating under the fixed sky. The latitudinal (latitude-like) angle of the equatorial system is called declination (Dec for short) . It measures the angle of an object above or below the celestial equator. The longitud inal angle is called the right ascension (RA for short).

You may have noticed that this newsletter is showing up a little bit later than usual, and it’s for good reason: release of the newsletter will now happen after the monthly business meeting so that we can have a chance to keep everybody up to date on the latest information. Sometimes, this will mean the newsletter shows up a couple of days late. But, the upshot is that you’ll now be able to see what we discussed at the recent business meeting and have time to digest it before our general meeting in case you want to give some feedback. Now that we’re on the new format, business meetings (and the oft neglected Light Pollution Committee Meeting), are going to start being open to all members of the club again by simply joining up in the respective chat rooms the Wednesday before the first Monday of the month—which I encourage people to do, especially if you have some ideas you want to see the club put into action.
