Below is a list of movies that the different grades/areas have shown in the past. It is the district/building policy that we gain parent permission to show any unrated, G and PG movies in the classroom. Although there is no exact date, or guarantee that the grades/areas will show ALL these movies, we are asking for you to review the list. All movies listed are educationally unrated or G. Movies that are PG are noted after the movie title. You are welcome to preview any movie from the list in the Independence office by appointment. Titles correlate with the stories and curriculum taught in class. Other videos are used as a resource when teaching social studies, science, and health. Please contact your classroom or special area teacher, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. We are asking that you sign the attached slip if you DO NOT give your child permission to experience these extra opportunities to enhance the themes they are learning about in class. Children who converse with their parents during television viewing are better able to evaluate and make sense of content. However, children might learn more if they are encouraged to go from simply understanding content to generating questions and problem solving strategies. To do this, we need to deliver teaching and learning strategies to parents so they can initiate dialogues with their children around television.

This edition focuses on the many ways that people communicate, in the present, past, and future. (WXEL, West Palm Beach, FL) In the past year, WXEL has aired more than 1,100 hours oflocally produced programming, including Emmy Award-winning weekly news magazine program South Florida Today and interview program South Florida Profile. Recent episodes ofSouth Florida Today, which airs several weeknights at 7 p.m., include "Literacy Life Lessons," focusing on literacy issues in Palm Beach and Martin counties, and "A Home ofTheir Own," on the foster care crisis in the area. South Florida Profile spotlights people who are helping to change the lives and landscapes ofSouth Florida and the Treasure Coast. Brazos Valley Public Broadcasting Foundation (KWBU, Waco, TX) KWBU is one ofthe last locally owned and operated stations in Central Texas. It currently offers more than 250 hours ofTexas-based programming each year, including Texas Monthly Talks and its popular local food program, Eat This! In addition, in September of2007, in conjunction with the PBS documentary The War, KWBU produced The War: Central Te...-as Remembers World War II, an outstanding local production highlighting the stories ofCentral Texas veterans and their families. A free screening ofthe documentary was presented to more tllan 400 participants, many ofthem veterans. An environmentally literate public results in increased stewardship of the natural environment. Many organizations are working to increase the understanding of students, teachers, and the general public about the environment in general, and the oceans and coasts in particular. The following are just some of the large-scale and regional initiatives which seek to provide standards and guidance for our educational efforts and form partnerships to reach broader audiences.
