Chigwell Netball Tournament

On Saturday 16 September the Year 6 netball team played in the Chigwell Tournament. The girls played exceptionally well. In the first round they won 2, drew 2, and lost 2. In the second round they won again. The team did especially well as it was most of the girls’ first tournament. The shooting was amazing with Taylor and Charlotte scoring lots of goals. Arwen also scored the team a point! All the attacking and defending was fantastic. A big thank you goes to Mrs Lane for all the training! Overall they came 7th out of 14, well done girls!

New Charity for Coopersale Hall

This year Coopersale Hall will be making the future brighter by helping to build a United World School in Cambodia. Along with forty other ISA schools including our fellow Oak-Tree Schools, Coopersale Hall has pledged to raise funds to set up the first school in the remote community of Pong Tek which will have a transformational impact on the whole community.

Everyone in the village of Pong Tek is currently involved in subsistence agriculture with very few other opportunities available without a basic education. There are over 1000 people living in the village and only around 5% can currently read or write. The ISA-UWS School will be a first for the community and will instantly provide a life changing opportunity for over 230 out-of-school children. UWS have informed us that the pledges made so far have meant they can move forward with the construction; they have finished the school frame and the first of four classrooms. As the picture shows, they have also purchased a set of desks and are running informal classes for the whole community. We are delighted to be involved in this initiative and thank our pupils and families in advance for their support this year to reach our pledge amount of £500.

Autumn Walks in Upper Kindergarten Baker

Upper Kindergarten Baker have enjoyed exploring the school grounds this half term. They have been looking at the colours and signs that show that Autumn is well and truly on its way. The weather has been getting colder, the leaves are changing colour and conkers scatter the floor. On their walks the children have collected leaves, cones, acorns and interesting things to make some Autumn crafts. They are looking forward to a few weeks time when there will be a lot of leaves to play in!

Year 4 Visit Waltham Abbey District Museum

Year 4 were very excited to go to Waltham Abbey District Museum this month. The children behaved very well the whole day and were eager to get involved and ask lots of questions. “First we explored the abbey grounds and Benjamin, who sings in the choir, told us all about the history of the abbey. There has been a there since 730AD. We are now on the seventh building, it is very impressive. We walked down Sun Street and looked at the mosaics on the pavement. The museum looked like a house. We went straight upstairs to the classroom, where we handled Stone Age artefacts. The oldest was a mammoth’s tooth. Then we explored the rest of the museum in our groups. Some people dressed up in the chain mail and historic costumes. We enjoyed visiting the shop. Walking back through the Abbey gardens we spotted an area that looked like a dungeon but was part of the old cloisters. It was an interesting trip.” Year 4 Lane

Oak Tree Camping Adventure

Year 3 children from all four Oak-Tree schools had a fantastic couple of days this month. They were all very excited about their two-day camping adventure and for many it was their first camping experience! Children took part in a number of activities as well as learning to put up their own tents! The evening was especially fun, playing games and toasting marshmallows on the fire. The children enjoyed meeting pupils from the other Oak- Tree schools and making new friends. It was a busy couple of days!
