Neighbourhood help around Meon Valley Division

While the Government is taking a number of steps nationally, a huge amount of work is going on locally to help us all get through this emergency. We are all going to have to come together to tackle this virus, particularly when it comes to protecting the vulnerable and elderly residents in our communities.

With this in mind, I am gathering a list of contacts and initiatives happening around the Meon Valley so that people can find out what support is available near them. I will be updating this list regularly. If you would like to add anything to it, please get in touch with my office at [email protected] or 020 7219 8018.

- A new helpline is up and running for frail or vulnerable residents who do not have support from families, friends or their local community, and who need urgent assistance with essential food or household supplies, collection of medication, or who are at risk of loneliness. The Coronavirus Helpline – Hantshelp4vulnerable - can be contacted on 0333 370 4000. The helpline is available seven days a week, from 9am-5pm. The service is available to people residing in the county of Hampshire only. There are separate arrangements in place for , Portsmouth and Isle of Wight residents.

A face to face support option is not available during this time but access to refuge, for those with urgent needs, will still be available 24/7.

- Hampshire County Council has also increased the annual grant available for local projects, initiatives and organisations allocated by each county councillor, and brought forward the window for applications in response to the Coronavirus outbreak. Grants are available of between £100 and £10,000 and the scheme is now open. Full details are available at: https://www.hants.gov.uk/community/grants/grants-list/county-councillor

Care for our most vulnerable I will be writing to all pensioners shortly to find out what issues matter to them. However, I know that some elderly people are feeling isolated as their families live away or are working and have little time to look after them. I would like to find out how many people feel like this and what resources there are in the community already to help them. Please contact me if you do need support or know people that might need help, or if you have an organisation which will help people so I can put them in touch with you. See Also
