HOW IT WORKS: ‘My BMW ConnectedDrive’ can be found at www.bmw-connecteddrive.co.uk 1. On the portal home page, select ‘Register now’. 2. Now enter your email address, and a password and confirm that you accept the Terms & Conditions. 3. Once you have received a registration email, confirm your registration via the link in that email. 4. Now add your personal details and add your BMW to your account by entering the last seven digits of your BMW’s chassis number (VIN). The VIN can be found on your vehicle APPS & SERVICES registration certificate. 5. You will then receive a message containing a code for your BMW. When you enter this code in the customer portal, your vehicle will instantly be assigned to your personal account. 6. To use the My BMW Remote App, activate the remote features in the portal by going to ‘Services Status’ and clicking on ‘Activate Remote Services’ in the Status menu. To be able to use all features, such as Remote Services, you will first need to register yourself and your vehicle once on the ‘My BMW ConnectedDrive’ customer portal at www.bmw-connecteddrive.co.uk. With iDrive the BMW Group introduced in 2001 a revolutionary HMI concept, which was firstly able to cope with the constantly increasing number of functions in the automobile. It was designed to optimally support drivers in their various tasks while driving. The basic iDrive concept can be de- scribed as separating driving functions from comfort functions as well as sepa- rating displays from controls. This basic concept together with a highly mounted display ensures that controls can be reached with no need looking at them and that the central display is easy and quick to access. The trendsetting iDrive idea has been widely adopted in the automotive industry. The following article outlines the iterative design and evaluation process that led to the new generation iDrive introduced in 2008 with the new BMW 7 Series. The basic challenge was to come up with an evolution of the iDrive concept by improving it without loosing the revolutionary approach to automotive HMI design.
