Allen begins his sixth season as the head coach of the Lady Cougars. Last season the Lady Cougars finished 20-12 and 11-5 in conference (tied for second). The 2008-09 sea- son was another record-breaking year. For the first time

A native of Le Grand, Iowa, Allen played two years for

COUGARS Mike Marquis at Marshalltown Community College then earned a basketball scholarship to play for Rudy Wash- ington at Drake University. During his senior year he was the Bulldogs leading scorer. Observing Drake’s 100th year of intercollegiate basketball, Allen was voted to the All-De- cade Team for the 1990s.

Allen earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Drake University in 1995 and completed a master of sci- ence in kinesiology at Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2003. He is a full-time faculty member in the physical education department at Collin College. Allen and his wife, Kim, have two sons, Zachary and Luke, and live in Allen.

Cary A. Israel joined Collin College as president in September 1999. Since his arrival, the college has consistently gained national recognition in academics, instruction and student success.

Under his guidance, the college: N created the Higher Education Center, to be housed in the new administrative building located at Central Expressway and Hwy.121 in McKinney; N renovated the college’s Central Park Campus in McKinney, including a new Jeffersonian- style library; N created special university partnerships to allow students simultaneous admission to both Collin College and neighboring universities, including Austin College, Baylor University, Dallas

COUGARS Baptist University, Texas Tech University, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Texas A&M University, the University of North Texas, The University of Texas at Dallas, Southern Methodist University and Texas Woman’s University; Cary A. Israel N was a founding member of Texas Campus Compact, an organization dedicated to increasing community and civic engagement; N earned a national Bellwether Award for its exemplary Service Learning and Learning Communities programs; N received the Collin County League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Community Service Award; N was the first community college in the nation to offer an alternative Teacher Certification Program; N initiated a program in which students can obtain an entire associate’s degree by attending Weekend College; N instituted Destination College, a program for high school students and their parents providing resources and tools in order to prepare for college; N procured a $1 million scholarship endowment from Texas Instruments; N created the first Student Leadership Academy at a Texas community college; N created an Endowed Chair for the Department of nursing due to a major gift from patrons of the college; and N created an Endowed Chair for Scholarly & Civic Engagement, a legacy of a $1 million gift from a patron of the college.

Prior to joining Collin College, Israel served as president of Raritan Valley Community College in Somerville, N.J. He has also been president of the Illinois Community College System and Front Range Community College in Westminster, Colo.

Israel is active in numerous national and local organizations. He was one of 10 educators from across the nation invited by the U.S. Department of Education to discuss the future of occupational education and training in America.

Israel currently serves on the executive and legislative committees of the Texas Association of Community Colleges and is Immediate Past President of Texas Campus Compact, a coalition of college and university presidents who promote civic purposes of higher education. He also serves on the national Executive Advisory Council for SunGard Higher Education, and is an active member of the Board of Trustees of Medical Center of Plano, the Advisory Council for the Center for Community College Education of Texas A&M University- Commerce, The University of North Texas Bill Priest Center Advisory Board, Plano Symphony Board, Plano Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board, and the Plano Rotary Club.

Israel was the recipient of the American Association of Community College Trustees’ CEO of the Year Award for the Northeast Region in 1996 and the Western Region in 2007. He received the Phi Theta Kappa Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction, Keep- ing America Working Award, the Plano Community Forum Award, Collin County League of United Latin American Citizens’ Service Award and was named one of the Inside Collin County Business 21 Leaders of the 21st Century. He has also been recognized as a Mentor by the Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center.

Israel holds a juris doctorate from the University of Detroit Mercy Law School and bachelor of arts degree from Michigan State University.
