Louis Rams team that dazzled the NFL between and Across the Atlantic, however, the monicker applies not to football or soccer but horse racing—and specifically to the Cheltenham Festival. Britain's biggest horse racing festival, Cheltenham is to jump racing what the Belmont Stakes or Kentucky Derby are to U. The four-day festival gets underway on Tuesday and culminates in the Gold Cup on Friday, the day's fourth race and one of the most prestigious events in jump racing along with the Grand National—which is scheduled for next month. While the Grand National remains Britain's biggest single betting race, over four Cheltenham World of Jump Racing the Cheltenham Festival dwarfs the amount of money staked on most racing events across the world. Unlike the three Triple Crown races, however, horses at Cheltenham compete on a course featuring either fences or hurdles, as opposed to a flat track. Additionally, horses race on turf as opposed to dirt, as is the case in the Belmont Cheltenham World of Jump Racing and the Kentucky Derby. The edition of the festival gets underway on Tuesday, March 10, and runs until Friday, March As usual, each day of the meeting features seven races, with the first starting at p. Runner up in the Champion Bumper, Appreciate It looks like he will relish going up in trip this year and Patrick Mullins backs up that view. He got caught for speed against stablemate Ferny Hollow at the Cheltenham Festival and he could be a real star of the novice hurdling division. Bob Olinger caught the eye in his debut Cheltenham World of Jump Racing at Gowran Park, thriving in the heavy conditions to trounce his rivals by 10 lengths. Henry de Bromhead was full of praise for his horse following that run and the consensus is that Bob Olinger could be an exceptional horse. If he takes to jumping, he could take some stopping. Named after one of the best horse racing jockeys of all-time in AP McCoy, Champ has the capacity to go to the very top of the sport — the Gold Cup is the aim. His jumping was sketchy at times as a novice but he has a hunger and desire to succeed. In terms of attitude, he is as professional as they come. He will need to jump better to take control of the staying chasing division but Champ has more pros than many of his rivals. A raw talent with massive potential, Chantry House could blossom into a household name in the coming months. He ticks all the right boxes to star at the biggest jumps meetings. On the face of it, he looks a chaser all over and he could be one of the top JP McManus horses to follow at the Cheltenham Cheltenham World of Jump Racing in Unbeaten in bumpers, Gypsy Island has just one blemish on her record.     Gold Cup Preview GOLD CUP PREVIEW Plenty of comparisons have already been made between Arkle and Best Mate, and they’re bound to become even more popular should the best staying chaser of the present day complete a hat-trick of Cheltenham Gold Cup victories in mid-March. Just for the record, the following paragraph from Chasers & Hurdlers 2002/3 may help to put into perspective just how good Arkle really was:- ‘In the 1965/6 season, Arkle ran four times before his third Cheltenham Gold Cup victory, starting off with a twenty-length win under 12-7 in the Gallaher Gold Cup at Sandown in November, setting a time record which still stands for the course and distance. Later that month, Arkle took his second successive Hennessy under 12-7, winning by fifteen lengths from Freddie who received 32 lb. Arkle made it three wins from three starts with victory by a distance in the King George VI Chase before again winning the Leopardstown Chase on his way to Cheltenham. Arkle conceded 42 lb to the second and third at Leopardstown; runner-up Height o’ Fashion, who went down by a neck, did most of her racing in Ireland but was worth a Timeform rating of 168+ whilst third-placed Splash, beaten a further fifteen lengths, had won the previous year’s Irish Grand National and earnt a Timeform rating of 157. Aintree is Britain’s first Beacon Racecourse, and in the first 12 months of a two-year pilot run by Racing To School, the charity responsible for delivering education programmes through the sport, around 1,500 children have had access to the world-famous venue, of whom at least 30 per cent had never previously visited a racecourse.
