ABINGTON HEIGHTS Graduation returns to its old home By Ben Freda for Abington Journal

CLARKS SUMMIT – Last year, Abington Heights High School had a virtual graduation program at the Circle Drive-In followed by an in-person ceremony at PNC Field. This year, the graduates were able to return to their old graduation site - the Pit Field. The seats were three feet apart, and people, who were fully vaccinat- ed, didn’t have to wear masks. Before giving her salu- tatorian speech, Abing- ton Heights grad Sarah Saddiqui recited an intro- duction to her friend and fellow class officer Jules Colombo, who was the class president. “Your devotion to our class made our senior year one of the best and most memorable years of our lives,” she said to her. LACKAWANNA TRAIL ‘What matters is that you do not surrender’

By Ben Freda For Times Leader

FACTORYVILLE – Lackawanna Trail Jr./Sr. High School held their annual graduation com- mencement ceremony on June 10. This year’s event had fewer restrictions than the previous one although COVID mitiga- tion procedures were still followed. Guests were required to wear a mask only in the bleachers. Each graduate was given two “stadium access” tickets that allowed guests to bring a lawn chair to sit outside the bleacher area. Principal Mark Mur- phy acknowledged the graduates for showing up for class both in-person and online during the pandemic. “We are so proud to be able to gather with them tonight along Lion Pride Stadium,” he said. Using a quote from Helen Keller, ‘Alone we can do little. On Together, the Go? we can do soSo much,’” are We!
