Things to do

• The IIT Kanpur campus is in itself a place worth exploring. Avid bird watchers can treat themselves (not on a plate but on a film roll maybe) to the migratory birds who choose to make the IIT campus their home at this time of the year. Visit http://www.birds.iitk.ac.in/ for more information. The swampy area behind Student Hall of Residence 8 is particularly a favorite haunt for bird watchers.

9 • Shopping. There are several places for shopping in the city. Kanpur is famous for leather goods (Meston Road), the famous Lucknow Chikan clothes and sarees (Naveen Market and Shivalya). Fabindia in Zsquare Mall is a popular outlet for ethnic Indian wear. There is also a market in Gumti No. 5 for almost all items especially clothing. Handicrafts are also available at the new shopping center in the campus.

• Delegates who wish to visit the banks of the holy river Ganga may like to plan a trip to which lies on the banks of the Ganges and is of historical significance owing to its connections with the First Indian War of Independence in 1857.

• For those who wish to visit the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, the recommended option is to hire a car and drive to Agra. The distance is approximately 300KM. Agra has many hotels where advance reservation is possible through websites like Booking.com, Cleartrip, Expedia and MakeMyTrip. You can also use services provided by Pearl Travels. Entry tickets for Taj Mahal can be bought online and guides can be hired (optional) at the entrance of the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is open from sunrise (around 0700) to sunset (around 1645).

General Instructions • Please carry your badge wherever you go inside the campus.
