A similar entry of prime cattle to last week with some cracking cattle forward. Both the top prices and overall averages have increased on the week helped by the quality available. Top price per kilo was 215p for a Limousin x steer from Mr. A.M.C. Eddy of St. Erth purchased by Chris Dale for his Butchers Shop. Top heifer at 209p/kg and £1,453 was a big 695kg Limousin x from Mr. R.E. Richards of St. Keverne bought by Trevarthens of Roskrow with top value steer from the same farm a 707kg Limousin x realising £1,442 to J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station.

An increased entry of store cattle this week which met a firm trade in line with recent weeks. Top price of the day was £1,140, firstly for a bunch of five grand 2 year old South Devon x steers from an entry for Mr. T.G. Hawke of Colan, equalled by a Simmental and Limousin pair from Mr. W.M. Mark of Tywardreath. A Welsh Black x pair selling very well for Messrs. F.A. Pearce & Partners of Chacewater at £1,125 and five younger pure bred Charolais steers sold to £1,075 for Mr. E.P. Loader of Chacewater. Four Hereford 13/14 month old steers led the younger cattle to £790 for Mr. T.G. Hawke with their heifers to £785. Overall top heifer was a Limousin x at £1,000 for Messrs. F.A. Pearce & Partners. A smart pair of British Blue x heifers around 14 months old for Messrs. L.T. Harvey & Sons of Newbridge sold well at £800.

A lighter entry with numbers of old season hogs beginning to dry-up. No let-up on the trade though, with all types, shapes and sizes keenly contested. A top price of £99 for the best-pick heavyweight 49.5kg Texels from a good run for Mr. R.A. Coad of Cubert bought by J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station. Setting the premium to 220p/kg were light 41.5kg hogs from the same vendor and purchased by Trevarthens of Roskrow.
