THREATENED SPECIES SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE Established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 The Minister approved this conservation advice and included this species in the Endangered category, effective from 11/05/2018. Conservation Advice Acacia wilsonii Wilson’s wattle Summary of assessment Conservation status Acacia wilsonii has been found to be eligible for listing in the Endangered category, as outlined in the attached assessment. Reason for conservation assessment by the Threatened Species Scientific Committee This advice follows assessment of information provided by Western Australia as part of the Common Assessment Method process, to systematically review species that are inconsistently listed under the EPBC Act and relevant state/territory legislation or lists. More information on the Common Assessment Method is available at: http://www.environment.gov.au/biodiversity/threatened/cam The information in this assessment has been compiled by the relevant state/territory government. In adopting this assessment under the EPBC Act, this document forms the Approved Conservation Advice for this species as required under s266B of the EPBC Act. Public consultation Notice of the proposed amendment and a consultation document was made available for public comment for 33 business days between 3 October 2017 and 16 November 2017. Any comments received that were relevant to the survival of the species were considered by the Committee as part of the assessment process. Recovery plan A recovery plan for this species under the EPBC Act is not recommended, because the Approved Conservation Advice provides sufficient direction to implement priority actions and mitigate against key threats. The relevant state/territory may decide to develop a plan under its equivalent legislation. -
5.3.1 Flora and Vegetation
Flora and fauna assessment for the Calingiri study area Prepared for Muchea to Wubin Integrated Project Team (Main Roads WA, Jacobs and Arup) 5.3 FIELD SURVEY 5.3.1 Flora and vegetation A total of 296 plant taxa (including subspecies and varieties) representing 154 genera and 55 families were recorded in the study area. This total is comprised of 244 (82.4%) native species and 52 (17.6%) introduced (weed) species, and included 60 annual, 223 perennial species, one species that is known to be either annual or perennial and 12 unknown life cycles (Appendix 8). The current survey recorded a similar number of species to previous flora surveys conducted along GNH and higher average diversity (average number of taxa per km) (Table 5-7). INTERIM RECOVERY PLAN NO. 329 WILSON’S WATTLE (Acacia wilsonii) INTERIM RECOVERY PLAN 2012–2017 October 2012 Department of Environment and Conservation Kensington Interim Recovery Plan for Acacia wilsonii FOREWORD Interim Recovery Plans (IRPs) are developed within the framework laid down in Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) Policy Statements Nos. 44 and 50. Note: Note: the Department of CALM formally became the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) in July 2006. DEC will continue to adhere to these Policy Statements until they are revised and reissued. Plans outline the recovery actions that are required to urgently address those threatening processes most affecting the ongoing survival of threatened taxa or ecological communities, and begin the recovery process. DEC is committed to ensuring that Threatened taxa are conserved through the preparation and implementation of Recovery Plans (RPs) or IRPs, and by ensuring that conservation action commences as soon as possible and, in the case of Critically Endangered taxa, always within one year of endorsement of that rank by the Minister. This plan will operate from October 2012 to September 2017 but will remain in force until withdrawn or replaced. It is intended that, if the taxon is still ranked as Endangered, this plan will be reviewed after five years and the need for further recovery actions assessed. This plan was given regional approval on 24 September 2012 and was approved by the Director of Nature Conservation on 30 October 2012. The provision of funds identified in this plan is dependent on budgetary and other constraints affecting DEC, as well as the need to address other priorities. -

Common Name Ghost Wattle Family Fabaceae Distribution Restricted to the region between Bencubbin and Mukinbudin, south-western W.A. Description Shrub 2-3 m high, wispy. New shoots resinous. Branchlets pendulous, flexuose, minutely sericeous between ribs or glabrous. Phyllodes widely spreading, coarsely filiform, incurved, ±cruciate in section, 9-15 cm long, 1-2 mm diam., innocuous, glabrous, with 4 rib-like broad yellowish nerves separated by deep ±glaucous furrows. Inflorescences simple, 1 or 2 per axil; peduncles 4-11 mm long, glabrous, resinous; heads globular, 7-8 mm diam., subdensely 25-31-flowered, bright golden. Flowers 5-merous; sepals 5/6-united. Pods linear, slightly raised over and constricted between seeds, straight to slightly curved, ±terete, to 11.5 cm long, ±2 mm diam., firm-chartaceous, appressed-puberulous except broad margins glabrous. Seeds longitudinal, oblong to elliptic, 3-5 mm long, glossy, mottled light and dark tan; aril white. -

Department of Parks and Wildlife Science and Conservation Division annual research report 2013–14 DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE There has been much change since we became the Department of Parks and Wildlife in July 2013, with renewed focus on conservation of Western Australia's unique plants and animals and our world- class network of parks, reserves and natural areas. Our Strategic Directions for 2013-14 recognised that science and research play a critical role in effective management of species and ecosystems. In October 2013 the Science Division was amalgamated with the Nature Conservation Division providing new opportunities for science to more directly inform conservation policy and management, and for management requirements and knowledge gaps to set research priorities. While much of our work supports the conservation priorities of the Wildlife corporate goal, we also provide scientific research and information to support delivery of the Parks, Fire, Managed Use and People corporate goals. The combined responsibilities of the divisions are focused around two main areas of Species conservation and Landscape conservation. Our work in species conservation involves activities, such as species and community recovery, wildlife protection and licensing, understanding species biology and taxonomy, while our landscape conservation work is focused on landscape and seascape management, development advice and liaison, understanding ecosystem processes and biological survey. Information systems and monitoring and evaluation link across both species and landscape conservation activities. Across all areas, effective exchange of knowledge and information to support legislation and policy is fundamental to effective delivery of wildlife management outcomes. Partnerships have always been an important means of achieving our outcomes. -

Esperance District Threatened Flora Recovery Team Annual Report 2003 by Ryan Butler for Esperance District Threatened Flora Recovery Team Summary There have now been three meetings of the Recovery Team since 2002 and members have continued to contribute to survey work, recovery actions and management issues. This report covers progress made during 2003 through to January 2004 with monitoring, surveys and other works for the DRF (Critically Endangered, Endangered and Vulnerable species) and Priority species in the Esperance District, other works associated with external funding and general duties associated with the Conservation Officer (Flora) position. Actions from Interim Recovery Plans (IRPs) or draft IRPs for the following are being implemented, Lambertia echinata subsp. echinata 2001-2004, Daviesia microcarpa 1996-1999, Eremophila lactea 1999-2002, Myoporum turbinatum 2002-2007 and Rhizanthella gardneri 2002-2007. Recovery Team There have been three Threatened Flora Recovery Team (EDTFRT) meetings in the Esperance District in 2002-03. These meetings were held on the 24th of October 2002, the 7th of March 2003 and the 28th of November 2003. The next meeting has been planned for the 30th of April 2004. Here, we define the distribution and extent of genomic diversity across the range of the iconic but threatened Acacia purpureopetala, a beautiful sprawling shrub with mauve flowers, restricted to a few disjunct populations in far north Queensland, Australia. Seed production is poor and germination sporadic, but the species occurs in abundance at some field sites. While several thousands of SNP markers were recovered, comparable to other Acacia species, very low levels of heterozygosity and allelic variation suggested inbreeding. Limited dispersal most likely contributed towards the high levels of divergence amongst field sites and, using a generalised dissimilarity modelling framework amongst environmental, spatial and floristic data, spatial distance was found to be the strongest factor explaining the current distribution of genetic diversity.
