KNOCKNINNY SUNDAY NEWSLETTER 27th January 2019 Third Sunday in Ordinary Time So that you may know the truth’. Jesus, ‘as was his custom,’ attends the service at his local synagogue. It is clear that Jesus was a faithful Jew even though he is about to have some serious run-ins with the Jewish religious leaders. This moment is one of the most powerful passages in the New Testament, as Jesus sets out his manifesto for ministry. Reading from Isaiah, Jesus tells the crowd that this passage is being fulfilled as they hear it, his ministry would be one focused on freeing people from various types of oppression. This passage is as relevant in our world today as it was for Jesus’ time: people still await liberation, the oppressed are not free. This is not a passage read in the past: it is very much alive, a vision for all to have as Christians and to work out of. Just as the scriptures are fulfilled in Jesus, they are also fulfilled in our lives. ‘Although they heard you, Lord, they failed to listen. They heard only what they wanted to hear. The truth hurt them, you made them feel uncomfortable, and they rejected you … Show us how we may seek your Kingdom and help to bring peace to a troubled world.’ Tony Singleton/Jane Mellett

Feast of St Brigid 1st February St. Brigid’s Blessing May Brigid bless the house wherein we dwell. Bless every fireside, every wall and door. Bless every heart that beats beneath its roof. Bless every hand that toils to bring its joy. Bless every foot that walks portals through. May Brigid bless the house that shelters us.

Prayer to St. Saint Brigid You were a woman of peace. You brought harmony where there was conflict. You brought light to the darkness. You brought hope to the downcast. May the mantle of your peace cover those who are troubled and anxious, and may peace be firmly rooted in our hearts and in our world. Inspire us to act justly and to reverence all God has made. Brigid you were a voice for the wounded and the weary. Strengthen what is weak within us. Calm us into a quietness that heals and listens. May we grow each day into greater wholeness in mind, body and spirit. Amen

Catholic Schools week 27th January – 3rd February. The theme ‘Catholic Schools: Celebrating the Work of Our Local Catholic Schools’. During Catholic Schools Week we will celebrate and reflect on the great living tradition that our local Catholic Schools represent, how they serve our parish community and support our Catholic faith. This will be an opportunity for us to show that we are proud of our Catholic ethos and that we celebrate it as we do for other aspects of school life.
