Several parasites di erent subsets of T cells have been discovered, each with distinct functions. Each subset has a characteristic cytokine signature that can be measured at the single-cell level using multicolor flow cytometry, combining surface phenotyping and intracellular staining of cytokines, transcription factors, or signaling molecules. Additionally, multiple soluble cytokines or signaling molecules can be quantitated simultaneously using BD™ Cytometric Bead Array (CBA) technology. Other complementary technologies to further the research in the T cell area include BD OptEIA™ ELISA reagents for cytokine quantitation and BD™ ELISPOT reagents for determining the frequency of cytokine production in cells.
