He currently heads the Music Theory and Wind, Brass, and Percussion departments in the Preparatory. Wirth is also assistant director of the Tuned-In scholarship program. Recently, he has also been the orchestra director with the Symphony Orchestra’s OrchKids program and was artistic director of the Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra in Frederick, Md., for 10 years. He has conducted ensembles in Venezuela, Scotland, and All-County Orchestras and Bands around the U.S. He is also an adjunct professor of music history at Stevenson University. Wirth was assistant professor and coordinator of music at Carroll Community College for 12 years. At Carroll, he started the Carroll Opera Theatre program and the Westminster Symphony Orchestra; both community-based ensembles built to give amateur and student musicians in Carroll County opportunities to perform. He was also professor of tuba at McDaniel College. Wirth received a Bachelor of Music degree in tuba performance from the Peabody Conservatory. He continued his studies at Peabody, earning master’s degrees in both wind conducting and music education. Daniel Levitov, director, Young Artists Orchestra Cellist Daniel Levitov maintains a vibrant career as a performer and educator, performing locally and nationally as a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician. Recognized by The Baltimore Sun for his “warmth of tone and phrasing” and “expressive force,” he is a founding member of the Clipper Mill String Quartet and serves as a substitute cellist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO), appearing frequently with its members on the Chamber Music by Candlelight series. Levitov has performed as a soloist in Carnegie Weill Hall, on Strathmore Hall’s Music in the Mansion series, and at the . Levitov is coordinator of cello and chamber music at the Peabody Preparatory and director of the Young Artists Orchestra (YAO), an ensemble that he named and has developed since he joined the faculty of the Preparatory. Levitov is also strings specialist and String Ensemble director at the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore. He served on the faculties of the Killington and Foulger Music Festivals, and will be on the faculty of the Credo Festival this summer. Levitov’s students have won several competitions including ASTA and Washington Performing Arts Society and have been accepted to major conservatories such as Juilliard, Oberlin, the Cleveland Institute, and the Manhattan School of Music. Levitov is active as a speaker and writer as well. He presents regularly at the American String Teacher’s Association (ASTA) National Conferences, and has published in Strings magazine. Levitov is the contributing editor for Two Octave Scales and Bowings for Cello by Susan C. Brown, published by Tempo Press. He is a past president of the /DC ASTA chapter. A native of Nebraska, Levitov holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the City University of New York. He did his undergraduate work at the Oberlin Conservatory and received his Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music, where he received the Janet Schenk award for distinguished service. Ankush Kumar Bahl, conductor, Preparatory Youth Orchestra Hailed by The New York Times as an “energetic” conductor who leads with “clear authority and enthusiasm,” Ankush Kumar Bahl is widely known as a conductor with impressive technique, thoughtful interpretations, and an engaging podium presence. Recent conducting highlights include the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Omaha Symphony, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Louisiana Philharmonic, Virginia Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., where from 2011 to 2015, Bahl was the assistant conductor. Most recently, Bahl has been an assistant conductor to Maestro Jaap van Zweden at the New York Philharmonic, where this season he will make his conducting debut. In addition to Maestro Jaap van Zweden, Bahl has been fortunate to count Kurt Masur, Cristoph Eschenbach, David Zinman, and Gianandrea Noseda as mentors. Bahl’s honors include the Solti Foundation U.S. Career Assistance Awards and the Felix Mendelssohn- Bartholdy Scholarship (Leipzig). A protege of former New York Philharmonic music director Kurt Masur, Bahl served as Masur’s assistant conductor at the Orchestre National de France, the Royal Concertgebouw, and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. American born and of Indian descent, Bahl is native of the San Francisco Bay Area and received a double degree in music and in rhetoric from the University of California at Berkeley. He has been a conducting fellow at the Aspen Music Festival with David Zinman and completed his master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting at the Manhattan School of Music with Zdenek Macal. In recent years, Bahl has been a frequent collaborator with jazz legend Wayne Shorter, leading his quartet in concerts of his orchestral music at both the Kennedy Center and the Detroit Free Jazz Festival. Bahl currently resides Washington, D.C., with his wife, twin boys, and their adopted pit bull Juno. Miyabi Henriksen, violin Miyabi Henriksen, age 16, is currently a tenth grade student at Howard High School in Ellicott City. She began playing the violin at the age of 4 and studies with Herbert Greenberg. At the Peabody Preparatory, Henriksen is a member of Pre-Conservatory Violin Program and is co-concertmaster with the Peabody Youth Orchestra. She has won first prizes at MTNA Eastern Division Junior Strings Competition, Friday Morning Music Club High School Competition, Young Artist Award Competition, and Young Musicians Inspiring Change Competition. This year, Henriksen was invited by the Washington Performing Arts Society to perform a musical tribute to Midori. In 2019, she won the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, the Peabody Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, and the Columbia Orchestra Young Artist Competiton. This season she will perform the Dvořák Violin Concerto with those three orchestras. When not practicing or performing, she enjoys dancing and cheerleading for her school. Sieun Park, flute Sieun Park, born in Seoul, South Korea, has been studying with Rachel JeeYoung Choe in the Peabody Preparatory as a 4-year full scholarship recipient and is active as a flutist in the Preparatory Wind Orchestra, along with the Peabody Youth Orchestra. Park has also performed in the Howard County High School GT Orchestra (2017Ž2019), with TwoSetViolin (2018Ž19), and with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in the Meyerho¦ Symphony Hall. She won second place in the YMIC Young Artist Competition and third place in the Mid Atlantic Flute Convention Student Honors Competition (senior division). Additionally, she was selected to play in the 2018 Marina Piccinini international master class among other students. Park was accepted into the 2019 MPulse Summer Performing Arts Institutes ² Flute Institute and the 2019 Oberlin Flute Summer Academy with scholarship. She has also won the 2018Ž19 Peabody Fran G. Zarubick Honors Competition and performed in the winners’ recital. Recently she won the 2019 Peabody Wind Orchestra Concerto Competition, and will be playing as the concerto soloist with the orchestra. Park is currently a senior at Glenelg High School. Other than the flute, she also takes an avid interest in photography, design, art, and singing. Taeyeon Park, violin Taeyeon [Tei-Yon] Park is 9 years old and was born in Daegu, South Korea. She began her violin lessons in Korea at the age of 3 under the tutelage of Hee-Sung Kim and is now studying with Ivan Stefanovic at the Peabody Preparatory. She is a third grader at Chapel Hill Elementary School. She is living in Baltimore for a year with her parents who are visiting scholars at the School of Medicine. She is pleased to make new friends and experience new cultures, and travel to beautiful and historic places nearby during this special period. She also loves to create and draw pretty cartoon cat characters. Park has won first prizes in local competitions in Korea, including competitions hosted by the Daegu Philharmonic Orchestra, The Daegu Music Association, and the Daegu Catholic University. Before leaving Korea for Baltimore, she performed a solo violin recital featuring recently studied works. She is now very fond of studying violin at Peabody.
