From Your Music VP/Show Chairman… by Chuck Steiner, Bass The Heralds of Harmony had a marathon weekend May 9-10 Show Staff consisting of three shows; two at USF in Tampa and one at The Palladium Theatre in St Petersburg. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - these shows don’t just “happen”. It’s an intricate, Volunteers deliberate, team effort. We were joined by manyBig Orange dual members who made the trek south to be with us (some A special thank you to our even going back and forth between days!), as well as our stellar volunteers, guest quartets “” and “Vocal Spectrum,” all of whom “Angels of the Heralds!” gave our audiences a thrilling two-and- a-half hour performance. The level of talent and professionalism on our shows has risen Medarda Bauer to match the “A” standard that we have in our music and competition; we simply put on a darn good show! Ticket sales were spread out across three venues, so while we did not have Vanny Bovino a “full house” for any of the shows, we actually reached more patrons than ever before - and Roxanne Clapp on both sides of the Bay. Kudos to all who performed and made the commitment to be the Kim Cragg Chapter that we want to be. Kirsten Cragg I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to all of the volunteers and Angels that worked tirelessly to provide a seamless and totally wonderful experience for our internal... (you) and Kati Cragg external (patrons) customers. Headed up by Dianne Roberts and Roxanne Clapp, along Sam Cragg with Shannon Czwalga, our Angels/Volunteers are an essential part of our day. From ticket Shannon Czwalga sales to food delivery to lobby ambiance (and MUCH more)…our Angels are top notch! Our entire riser crew (you know who you are!) was very efficient, led by the quickly emerging Bev Powell Danny Wunderlin with his sidekick and Dad, Brian Wunderlin. Matt Crisostomo, our Barbara Reynolds uniform man extraordinaire handled all the uniform assignments, requests, and snafus with grace. John and Kim Santamaria were instrumental in setting up our performance at the Dianne Roberts Palladium, and should be congratulated for making our entrance into that market a success. Liz Sipple Along with Nick Nicosia and Bob Slaney’s tireless marketing efforts, we now have a brand new set of customers in that area! Steve Matheson’s marketing through flyers, emails, and Jennifer Stiles media continue to produce needed exposure for us, and we’d be far less “seen” if it were not Bill Wunderlin for him and his knowledge. I must thank our President Dave Roberts for his guidance - both Joan Wunderlin financially and mentally! And of course, the “money man,” Al Kelly, for always being on top of our financial situation and ready with the checkbook!

Groupani From the zer by Dave Roberts, President, Tenor Guy

As the primary Site Admin for our website, my responsibility includes liaison with the Groupanizer staff and developers. We have other site admins that support our functions; such as Chuck (calendar administration), Ed (music), Larry (communication), Brian (membership and rehearsal videos), Steve C (logic paths), and Charlie N (chorus liaison with Big O), and they occasionally have to input problems. However, my focus with Groupanizer is to have the correct function and availability for our members.

This past month our website experienced some serious outages due to ISP problems for our Groupanizer software. The ‘Internet Service Provider’ is a different company and answers to Groupanizer management. So, if you notice an unplanned outage, then it is one too many. We expect 100% availability. There’s nothing in a contract, but we expect a high level of support.

I spent 35 years in the Information Technology field as a programmer and as a manager with many programmers supporting many software applications. So I fully understand the problems that Groupanizer management experienced this past month. I have watched how quickly they recovered service and how they have searched and found the root cause of the outages. Both are important and are managed processes. I am confident that Groupanizer management will get the ISP support under control.

PAGE List of charter Heralds of Harmony members. History by Dave Roberts, Tenor, President

Yes, it’s our birthday. The Heralds will be seventy years old the 29th of this month. Following are some of the artifacts in our website’s history (category).

November 9, 1944 – a letter from then Society president, Carroll P. Adams, to Robert Aldrich, the instigator for starting a barbershop chapter in Tampa. To save your eyes, I re-typed the letter content: Dear Mr. Aldrich, I have learned through Mr. O. C. Cash of the Tulsa Chapter of our Society of your interest in barber shop quartet singing and in our organization. Any man who has music, or an appreciation of music in his soul is likely to get an added thrill from carrying a part in a quartet, either impromptu or permanent, or from being a member of an informal chorus singing barber shop harmony under competent leadership. Done with congenial men and under wholesome surroundings, it can very easily be an extremely elevating and inspiring influence in his life. Incidentally, some of our members are not singers, but enjoy listening to good music. They share the inspiration of it with those who do the actual singing. I am sending separately the last issue of our International magazine, the HARMONIZER, a sample of our Membership Application Card, and, most important of all, a booklet which can be read in five minutes and which will give the simple mechanics of organizing a local chapter. Let me have all the questions which come to your mind. I shall hope for an opportunity of working with you in the formation of a chapter in your city.

Cordially yours May 10, 1945 – a letter to perspective members from J. L. Stevens, Permanent Third Assistant Carroll P. Adams Temporary Vice-Chairman written on General Auto Supply Co., Inc. Stationary. This is preserved in a plastic cover. International Secretary The Tampa HERALD Page 12 May 2015

Barber Pole! by Steve Cragg, Lead It is time for another fun-filled episode of “Hangin’ Around the Barber Pole!” In fact, it’s our very first Mother’s Day Edition! The "Friends FRIENDSof the Heralds" OF THE HERALDS program was instituted to PRESIDENTIAL provide financial support to the Heralds to sustain the significant $1,000 and up growth we have experienced in Charlie and Cindy Barbarisi Dave and Dianne Roberts the last three years. With the Larry and Roxanne Clapp John and Kimberly Santamaria return of Tony De Rosa as our Tony and Jodi De Rosa Theresa Schweiger director, we have more than Terry Garvin Steve and Irene Stenzler doubled our numbers on the Dick & Susan Murbach Paul and Jenny Stiles risers; and more significantly, we Marty and Barbara Port are producing a better musical and entertainment experience for our audiences. Our shows are $500 to $999 routinely sold , and for the first Alexander and Tatiana Boltenko Steve and Sheri Matheson time in a long while, we will be Ralph and Chris Brown Russ and Beverly Powell competing on the International Terry and Emily Garvin Mark and Karen Tuttle chorus competition stage, and, we are having fun. GOLD Several years ago, it became $250 to $499 apparent that the customary Matt Crisostomo Stephen Janes Ray and Pam Scalise sources of revenue from ticket and Shannon Czwalga Al and Julie Kelly Lee and Bonnie Sobania sales, performance fees, dues, Greg and Donna Garvin Bob and Jane Lang Jerry and Linda Tobin and grants would not sufficiently Bill and Carolyn Glasgow Ed McKenzie Tom and Judy Williams cover our financial needs. Sandra Roth Accordingly, we created an opportunity for those of us on SILVER the risers as well as our friends, Pat Bauer $100 to $249 Richard and Susan Murbach families, audience members and Wayne and Celeste Brozovich Nick and Irene Nicosia other fans of barbershop to reach Richard & Victoria Casanzio Joe Kane Bob and Shauvon Powell in their pockets to assist us on Dan and Marcia Deignan Don and Dana Long Bob and Amy Slaney our musical journey. Thus, the David and Marlene Cross Joe and Kaye McCarthy Bill and Joan Wunderlin "Friends of the Heralds" was born. William Fowler Art McNeil Lou and Carol Wurmnest Not only has it helped us pay our bills, but recently FOH raised the BRONZE money to purchase a new set of up to $99 risers. Michael Burt David Larson John Proeschel Myra Dickens Louis Markee Chris and Amy Rodgers Marty Jahnel Flora McClain Dick and Liz Sipple We thank those of you who and Mary Fleming have helped us get started and Edna Nastasy Lynn Smith Rob Hargen Charles and Linda Nelson Keith and Rhonda Starks for those who may do so in the Bryan Hevel Margaret Newton Chuck Steiner future.
