The Christmas Season General Email: [email protected]

Parish Office Phone: 763-972-2077 We are now just a handful of days away from our celebration of Christmas day, and it may seem for many of us that it is Pastor: Fr. Nathan LaLiberte, ext. 222 [email protected] done and now on to the next thing. But, the Church holds up to us the desired intention that we would celebrate fully, eight Deacon: Rev. Mr. Joseph Kittok, 763-221-6658 days of Christmas (formally called the octave). The reason [email protected] for the Church doing this is the hope that we, the Christian Deacon: Rev. Mr. Bruce Bowen, ext. 244 faithful, would take time to reflect on the profundity of the 612-298-4867, [email protected] mystery we just celebrated. It is as if the Church’s tradition is Parish Business Administrator: Russ Nolan, ext. 226 saying, “One 24-hour period isn’t long enough to contain all [email protected] that this mystery of the incarnation can reveal to us.” Bookkeeper: Marie Bauman, ext. 223 The incarnation, the event of Jesus’ birth among us, is one of [email protected] the central mysteries of our faith, where we believe that the Director of Music: Terry Beaudry, ext. 225 new born Jesus is fully God and fully man at the same time [email protected]

(Hypostatic union to be specific). How it is even possible for Faith Formation Director: Eric Russek, ext. 251 simple and frail humanity to hold all of God within it, is truly a [email protected] mystery worth contemplating. The tradition has called this Faith Formation Teen Coordinator: Katy Kalleberg, reality the “Capax Dei” (Latin for “Capacity for God”). What ext. 230, [email protected] this complex theological term means is simply that when God Safe Environment Coordinator: Eric Russek, ext. 251 created and Eve, he did so knowing that at some point he would come among them in the flesh. He made the very Liturgical Administrator: Kathy Carlson, ext. 246 fibers of our first parents’ bodies with the capacity to contain [email protected] divinity, and the feast of Christmas is the moment when it was Admin. Assistant / RCIA Coordinator: Connie Botz , actualized in this world. ext. 221, [email protected]

Bulletin Editor: Kathy Carlson, 763-221-1065, Thus, from Christmas day forward the incarnation is also the [email protected] moment in time where we learn directly from God what it means to be fully human. If what St. of Lyon states is Maintenance Supervisor: Gary Zitzloff [email protected] true, “the glory of God is man fully alive,” then us seeing the witness of Jesus (God become man), holds within itself the Cemetery Liaison : Jane Speckel, ext. 224 secret to all of us becoming fully alive. [email protected]

Parish Trustees: Barb Janas and Gary Schaust For me, one of the in our tradition that has assisted me in understanding the mystery of the incarnation is Bl. Charles Miscarriage Ministry: Bobi Meehan, 763-479-2604 de Foucauld. This 19th century blessed from , ST. MAXIMILIAN KOLBE CATHOLIC SCHOOL encountered the living presence of God become man and gave Website: www.stmaxkolbeschool.org his life in imitation of Jesus. Quoting from his diaries, he says so beautifully: “I lost my heart to this Jesus of Nazareth, crucified School Phone: 763-972-2528

1900 years ago, and I am spending my life trying to imitate him as School Principal: Mary Ziebell, ext. 228 much as my weakness allows. The Gospel showed me that ‘the first [email protected] commandment is to love God with all your heart’ and that School Secretary: Barb Barten, ext. 229 everything should be enclosed in love. Everyone knows that love’s [email protected] first effect is imitation.” St. Maximilian Kolbe Councils The Church, in giving us eight days to reflect on the incarnation of God through Christmas, is an invitation for us Pastoral Council to prepare for the coming New Year by falling in love and Gail Sinkel, Chairperson, [email protected] Ted May, Secretary, [email protected] following Jesus even more closely. If God came among us through frail humanity, he is inviting us to use our frail Additional Members: Susan Fobbe, Allen Hoffman, humanity in imitation of the witness he left us in his only B.J. Ludwig, Julianne Paskach, Bob Sundheim begotten Son. A task this bold cannot be fully reflected on and Please contact Gail Sinkel or Ted May of the Pastoral Council with adhered to casually. Thus, my brothers and sisters, let us take concerns or comments about the parish. Concerns and ideas will be discussed with Fr. Nathan at the monthly Council meeting. this octave to summon within us a desire to live the upcoming 2019 in even greater conformity to the God-Man, Jesus of Finance Council Nazareth. Growing Together!

It may be cold outside as winter approaches, but that isn't stopping our students from learning about the world of plants and gardening. The fourth grade class at St. Max has the responsibility of maintaining the Tower Garden, a vertical, aeroponic tower system that grows a variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Students are responsible for maintaining the water supply and ph levels of the tower, as well as recording weekly observations in their notebooks on the changes they see in their plants.

The Tower Garden is a great way for students to grow and learn new things all year long!
