2018-19 Chicago Wolves Game Notes CHICAGO AT SAN ANTONIO MARCH 23, 2019 7 p.m. AHLTV 2018-19 ADDITION BY SUBTRACTION? It defies logic, but it’s the truth: The Chicago Wolves keep losing important players, but they keep TALE OF THE TAPE winning important games. The latest example came Friday night as the Wolves knocked off the Texas REGULAR-SEASON SERIES Stars 4-1 despite playing without three of their top five scorers this season -- and losing their No. 6 4-2-0-0 San Antonio | 2-3-0-1 Chicago scorer during the third period. On the morning of Feb. 17, the Wolves woke up in third place in the Central Division. They owned 60 points, which was seven behind the front-running Grand Rapids Griffins and two behind the Iowa Wild. Since that time, the Wolves have lost defenseman Erik Brannstrom (trade), No. 1 AHL scorer Daniel Carr (injury), No. 4 AHL scorer Brooks Macek (injury), physical forward Stefan Matteau (injury) and 27-31-6-1 AHL plus-minus leader Gage Quinney (potential injury during Friday’s game). 38-19-5-3 LEADING SCORERS IN SERIES Nevertheless, the Wolves have produced an 11-2-0-2 record (.800) since Feb. 17 to vault past the Grif- fins and the Wild into first place in the Central Division. Chicago takes the ice tonight with a 4-point SAN ANTONIO CHICAGO lead over Grand Rapids and Iowa. Moreover, the Wolves’ magic number for a Calder Cup playoff berth Skater G A Pts Skater G A Pts has dropped to 9.

What Does It Mean To Draft eP rfectly? An Evaluation Of Draft trS ategy In The aN tional Hockey League Abstract We define what it means for an National Hockey League (NHL) team to have been successful in drafting, and use this retrospective framework to determine if any teams exhibited a sustained edge in drafting from 2000 to 2009. At a high level, we compare actual draft outcomes to teams’ perfect draft outcomes. The perfect draft can be thought of as what would happen if a general manager (GM) could redo a draft with complete knowledge of prospects’ career values as well as other teams’ choices. A prospect’s career value is defined here as aggregate Point Shares (from hockey-reference.com ) through the 2015-16 NHL season, though any valuation metric can be used. When drafting perfectly, a GM picks the best player available as is commonly prescribed, but they start with their last pick and work backwards.
