Upon being trash-talked by a certain young Jedi Knight, this person responded with “Good, twice the pride, double the fall.” For ten points, name this Sith Lord, the master of Asajj Ventress, who was killed by Anakin Skywalker above Coruscant. Answer: Count Dooku (accept Darth Tyranus) BONUS 1: George Lucas is the creator of Star Wars, but he only directed four of the nine films. For ten points each, answer some things about the non-Lucas filmmakers behind the movies. a) This critically-acclaimed director of Knives Out also helmed several episodes of Breaking Bad, including “The Fly” and “Ozymandias”, which is considered one of the greatest episodes of television of all time. His foray into the sequel trilogy, though, was met with massive fan backlash. Answer: Rian Johnson b) This other sequel trilogy director is otherwise known for his work as a director and producer of the most recent Star Trek movies, as well as the Cloverfield franchise. He’s also known for his use of lens flares. Answer: J.J. Abrams c) George Lucas gets his due credit for the greatness of Star Wars, but many people don’t know that Empire Strikes Back, the most-worshipped film in the saga, wasn’t actually directed by Lucas himself. Name this director of Episode V, also known for RoboCop 2 and being the inspiration for Yoda’s face. Answer: Irvin Kerschner TOSSUP 2: One of the languages spoken on this planet was the ancient tongue of ur-Kittât. This planet once had a lush environment, but after it’s most-known inhabitants took up residence, the planet turned to wasteland. This dark world in the Unknown Regions had a different spelling in ancient texts, and Luke Skywalker hunted for this planet years after Return of the Jedi. This planet’s signature nails-on-a-chalkboard lightning strikes are the result of the rubbing together of dust particles in its atmosphere. For ten points, name this stronghold of the Sith and hiding place of Darth Sidious and the Final Order in The Rise of Skywalker. Answer: Exegol BONUS 2: In a way, the fall of the Empire could be entirely credited to one malfunctioning droid. For ten points each, name some things about that fateful droid transaction outside the Lars Homestead on Tatooine. a) Owen Lars originally wanted to buy this red-accented astromech droid instead of R2-D2, until he purposely malfunctioned to ensure the purchase of R2-D2. He later found and joined the Rebellion and was seen back on Tatooine in The Mandalorian. Answer: R5-D4 b) Both R2 and R5, along with C-3PO, were being peddled by these desert scavengers, who traveled in sandcrawlers and could frequently be heard shouting “Utinni!” (meaning “come here”) at each other and potential clients. Answer: Jawas c) R5 supposedly had a malfunction with this part that caused smoke to come pouring out of his body when he tried to roll over to Uncle Owen. In Robot Chicken, the malfunction with this part manifested physically as R5 refusing to get off the couch and asking Luke to move out from in front of the TV. This person started a romantic relationship with the son, Hadder, until both he and his mother were killed by the Empire. This person was left in a turret on Tamsye Prime, giving her trust issues she’d carry for the rest of her life. Upon being asked years later, if she could “stand to see Imperial flags reign across the galaxy”, she retorted with “it’s not a problem if you don’t look up”. Despite her disillusionment with Saw Gerrera’s guerilla warfare, she joined the Rebel Alliance in time for the assault on Scarif, which, while a success, led to her death in the arms of Cassian Andor. Answer: Jyn Erso (prompt on “Erso”) BONUS 3: Such a charming man as Obi-Wan Kenobi would very easily make friends of all shapes and sizes. For ten points, name some things about a certain four-armed diner owner. a) This Besalisk chef identified the projectile that killed Zam Wesell as a Kaminoan saberdart and, when asked by Kenobi about the friendliness of the Kaminoans, replied with “well that depends on how good your manners are, and how big your pocketbook is.” Answer: Dexter Jettster (accept “Dex”) b) Dex’s Diner was located on this planet, whose surface was entirely covered by several layers of city. Answer: Coruscant c) The diner was located in this area of Coruscant. This area was known as a run-down industrial zone. Answer: CoCo Town TOSSUP 4: This person has a permanent scar from a fall she took while being carried away from a swarm of venom-mites on Draboon. A mosaic of this person, who was born on the planet Kalevala, was stolen and vandalized by Maul; it now hangs in his shrine on Dathomir. A fan theory states that this person’s supposed nephew, Korkie, is actually her illegitimate son. Answer: Satine Kryze BONUS 4: He’s more than just a Vader wannabe with a torn heart. For ten points, name some things about the backstory of one of the best characters in the saga, Kylo Ren. a) Kylo was born to Han Solo and Leia Organa on this historically Rebel-aligned planet, which was also the homeworld of Mon Mothma. Answer: Chandrila b) As part of his dark-side training, Supreme Leader Snoke took Kylo to this location on the planet Dagobah. When Luke Skywalker visited this location in Empire Strikes Back, he fought a vision of Darth Vader. When Kylo visited this location, he fought a vision of Luke. Answer: Cave of Evil (prompt on any other less specific answer involving a cave) c) Kylo was master of the shadowy organization known as the Knights of Ren. There is some debate over whether this creature is in fact an animal or a plant, seeing as it spreads through spores that mature over the course of thirty thousand years. In canon, this creature could be found on Felucia as well as the planet on which it makes a film appearance, and in Legends, Starkiller was nearly killed by a Togruta Jedi on Felucia using one of these creatures. The best-known of these creatures resides in the Great Pit of Carkoon and nearly swallowed Lando Calrissian before (presumably) killing Boba Fett. For ten points, name this monster that Jabba the Hutt attempted to feed Luke Skywalker to in Return of the Jedi. Answer: sarlacc BONUS 5) The Mandalorian has some great moments, but we’re not here for those. For ten points each, name some things about one of the show’s most uninspiring episodes. a) The fifth episode of The Mandalorian sees Mando team up with this rookie bounty hunter, a true Chad chasing a bounty that was way out of his league. Answer: Toro Calican b) That bounty was this woman, an outlaw who usually worked as a contract killer for the Hutts. This woman, played by Ming Na-Wen, was surprisingly killed by Calican when she suggested they team up against Mando. Answer: Fennec Shand c) This episode, “The Gunslinger”, was directed by this man, who previously worked on Avatar: The Last Airbender before getting a fateful phone call from Lucasfilm Animation that led to his incredible work on projects like Star Wars: the Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Answer: Dave Filoni TOSSUP 6) One instance of someone using this technique is preceded by several uses of Force Lightning and the insults of “Your weakness will not be my downfall” and “A failed apprentice makes for a foolish master.” Although this technique is considered a dark side power, Ahsoka Tano used this technique on a Trandoshan Hunter after Kalifa was killed on Wasskah. Shockingly, the Child used this technique against Cara Dune onboard the Razor Crest after he saw Cara and the Mandalorian arm-wrestling. One use of this ability directly preceded Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Mustafar duel.
