GUARDING LIFE AND GAINING LIFE-SKILLS- OSSIM SECURITY GUARD TRAINING PROGRAMME-GURUGRAM DLF Foundation’s skill training project- LIFE (Learning Initiative for Employment) in collaboration with OSSIM, trained 1080 security guards starting September 2015. The period of the training was 30 days. Between 2017-2018 alone, nearly 355 security guards were imparted free of cost skill training as part of the project. OBJECTIVE: This initiative was set out to build capacity and give the security guards the required tools and skills to work more efficiently. TRAINING The scope ranged from increasing their knowledge base (including use of latest technology), better communication with the public and most importantly, imparting soft-skills like gesturing, behavior, personal hygiene and grooming. The training focused on job related needs focusing on day to day functioning of the security guards so that they can apply their learnings to their work-life. Many of them observed that most of the knowledge they acquired during the training was new to them. SKILLS FOR LIFE • Most participants shared that the training had empowered them to work efficiently and sincerely. Their confidence level, job satisfaction and over-all commitment towards work reached new heights. • The training also gave them the tools to do their checks and verification with more clarity and professionalism • As a result of the training, their overall behavior and conduct with the public has significantly improved. They communicate more positively and in a service-oriented mode. • Since most of the guards are from remote locations like Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, they come from a Hindi medium background. This sometimes causes difficulties for them in communicating with the clients. Therefore, in the month-long training, special emphasis was given on improving soft skills like behavior, gesture, grooming and managing personal hygiene. FIRST HAND ACCOUNT The last batch of training for 120 guards focused on Fire Safety after a special request from the Security Guards who opted for the training. “The training on fire management was extremely useful. They have the technical know-how now and can handle any fire situation well,” says Gopa Kumar Kuttan, GM NORTH SECURITY

“You can see they are receiving the visitors with a smile. This will certainly provide client satisfaction and further contribute towards the brand of DLF.”- Mr Gopa Kumar Kuttan, GM, Security, North Zone. THE IMPACT WAS ENORMOUS Prior to the training, only 3 per cent of the guards rated their expertise to handle a CCTV camera as excellent but after the training, that number shot up to 100 per cent. Similarly, during peak hours, security guards were not able to manage visitors, vehicles and security check-ins, but after the training, they became so focused and process-driven, managing peak-hour traffic became easy for them.

DLF’s ROAD TO SAFETY

India accounts for over 11% of the road accident deaths globally. Not only are drivers responsible for the safety of passengers, they are also in charge of the vehicles they drive and the cargo they carry. In order to safeguard and coach their drivers, DLF has been successfully conducting various training activities. DLF in association with Fleet Forum, started the ‘Driving to Gold’ programme for its dedicated drivers. Approximately 20 drivers who are stationed in the DLF offices participated in the program. To avoid any commercial, financial, human and legal consequences, DLF felt a need to educate their drivers to overcome any difficult situation that may arise on the road, including hostile environments and unfair demands. The programme launched on 21st August, 2017 with the drivers successfully graduating on 4th January, 2018. Its main objective was to focus on minimizing road accidents by DLF drivers, concentrate on road safety and increase awareness about physical and mental well-being of drivers in India, along with changing the perception of drivers by investing in various training and community engagement activities. ‘Driving to Gold’ further laid emphasis on enhancing their existing driving knowledge, giving them constructive feedback and ensuring that their driving is safe for the passengers and the environment. The drivers were graded as bronze, silver and gold level drivers based on their capabilities and knowhow. Medical tests including the vision drum and colour blindness were conducted to check their vision and hearing abilities. The program also identified areas of improvement for the drivers and assigned tailor- made modules for them. Once the course was over, various mechanisms were put in place to ensure that they practiced what they learnt during the training. They were also educated on maximising fuel efficiency and adopting eco-friendly practices by reducing C02 emissions and particulate matter in the atmosphere. Psychometric and knowledge tests were conducted to examine their aptitude. A little sensitisation and training helped these drivers to drive safe and sound.

SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY CONFERENCE IN GURUGRAM As Gurugram races ahead to become a millennium city, traffic woes continue to rise for its citizens. Land crunch, shrinking natural resources and lack of a robust public transport system has to led to immense traffic congestion. DLF Foundation conceived the idea of a sustainable public transit, serving as an inception point to adopt sustainable mobility with last mile connectivity. The Gurugram Rejuvenation Project, therefore was launched as a collaborative effort by DLF Foundation, corporates, NGOs, public and private institutions. For the “Sustainable Mobility Conference”, the mission was simple- to find a solution to the issue of intra -city transportation in Gurugram. DLF Foundation therefore engaged with various stakeholders-the District Administration, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, Institute of Road Traffic and Education, (IRTE) and institutions such as TERI School of Advanced Studies & Management Development Institute (MDI) as knowledge partners. MOU with Mobike India and ABInbev To take the project forward, two MOUs were signed with Mobike and ABInbev for consistent efforts on “Last Mile Connectivity”. Mobike’s dockless-bicycle sharing system became a crucial component of last mile conncectivity. We formed the ‘Working Group for Safer Road for Gurugram’ in which Corporates, International Organisations, Government Institutes and Officials of Gurugram became members. A number of activities including Training of Drivers was done by this Working Group with Fleet Forum of Netherland and Ab in Bev of USA .
