Geological Structure and Geomorphological Aspects in Karstified Susceptibility Mapping of Limestone Formations
Available online at www.sciencedirect.com ScienceDirect Procedia Chemistry 19 ( 2016 ) 659 – 665 5th International Conference on Recent Advances in Materials, Minerals and Environment (RAMM) & 2nd International Postgraduate Conference on Materials, Mineral and Polymer (MAMIP), 4-6 August 2015 Geological Structure and Geomorphological Aspects in Karstified Susceptibility Mapping of Limestone Formations H. Zabidi1*, M. Termizi2, S. Aliman2, K. S. Ariffin1 and N. L. Khalil1* 1Strategic Mineral Niche Group, School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering,Engineering Campus, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia 2SBA Consultants Sdn Bhd Abstract Major cavities and underground drainage tend to develop with the aid of massive or thick-bedded and well-jointed limestone whilst porous and soft limestone is more likely to form micro-cavities and localized karst along bedding and close to ground level. This phenomenon wouldprobablybe explained by studying the movement of water circulating through the pores in the limestone. Strong correlations between fracture patterns and drainage lines/cavity zones have been long suspected by many researchers in the past (Mayer, et al., 2003). An assumption has been made that fractures offer lines of decreased hydraulic resistance to groundwater flow and therefore they are more easily exploited by weathering and erosion processes than their adjacent rock (Sower, 1975 and Ericson et al., 2004). The end product of the weathering and erosion process is a river channel or active cavity, developed along fractures orientation. Thus, the karstic surfaces are consistently developed along the joint sets orientated at limestone is strongly fractured with the dominant joint orientations. In this paper, a methodology for karstified susceptibility assessment of three selected limestone formations is presented specifically looking at tectonic history, joint pattern, and topographyand karstification intensity. -

The Case of Kuala Lumpur City, Malaysia
10.2478/jlecol-2019-0002 aaaJournal of Landscape Ecology (2019), Vol: 12 / No. 1. DEVELOPING URBAN GREEN SPACE CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM USING MULTI-CRITERIA: THE CASE OF KUALA LUMPUR CITY, MALAYSIA AMAL NAJIHAH MUHAMAD NOR1,2 AND SAIFUL ARIF ABDULLAH 1* 1Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, 43600 UKM Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia. 2Faculty of Earth Science, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Jeli Campus, 17600 Jeli, Kelantan, Malaysia. *Corresponding author e-mail: [email protected] Received: 25th October 2018, Accepted: 21th December 2018 ABSTRACT In many countries urban green spaces are stated in a set of different administrative regulatory framework. However, their definition and characteristics are inconsistent and developing a systematic classification has been recognized to avoid the inconsistency. Several efforts have been made but the approach mainly based on a few criteria and classified manually according to the types that stated in the regulatory framework. Therefore, this study developed a classification system based on multi-criteria that represents the structure and function of urban green spaces using Kuala Lumpur City, Malaysia as a model. The useful of the systematic classification for urban green spaces planning and management was interpreted through landscape pattern analysis. In this study, land use map of Kuala Lumpur City was used as a based. Through field observation, information from Kuala Lumpur City Hall and satellite image interpretation, seven criteria were identified to develop the classification system. Landscape pattern was based on landscape metrics analyzed using FRAGSTAT 3.3. The analysis defined five categories of urban green spaces: conservation green space, greenway, community green space, residential green space and amenity green space. -

Existing Environment
Detailed Environmental Impact Assessment for the Proposed Reclamation for the Development Chapter 3 of Oil and Gas Industrial Base at Kg. Rancha-Rancha, Labuan, F.T., Malaysia Existing Environment Chapter 3 Existing Environment 3.1 Introduction This chapter outlines and records the existing conditions, in qualitative and quantitative terms, of the physico-chemical, biological and socio-economics environment at the project site (reclamation and sand borrow) and its surrounding areas (within 5-km radius) prior to implementation of the Project. As mentioned in Chapter 2, this Project two (2) sites, i.e. 1) the reclamation site, where proposed reclamation and capital dredging in near vicinity to attain the required draft; and 2) the proposed sand borrow site, where sand materials will be extracted and transported to the reclamation site. The purpose of describing the existing environmental setting is to establish a reliable “baseline”, which is an important pre-requisite for undertaking an environmental impact assessment and future project monitoring. 3.2 Physico-Chemical Environment 3.2.1 Bathymetry The bathymetrical database for this DEIA study is derived from the C-Map electronic chart. All depths are referred to chart datum and reference in Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM-50) coordinate system. Reclamation site: This site is located on the western side of Rancha-Rancha Industrial area facing the Sg Kina Benuwa bay. The bay morphology is composed by a mixture of sand mud and low lying rocks. The bathymetric at this site ranges from -1 MSL to -7 MSL. Sand borrow site: The bathymetric at this site ranges between -5 MSL and -12 MSL (from north to south). -
