Panther Print.. Shares a minute with Aaron Rogers. Morningside Senior Coach 2012

1 . Your first game was in Darwin then a home game you didn’t get any points. But what did you take away from the games?

Flying to Darwin round 1 is always a tough trip. I think we put in a solid performance however we were not able to run with their forward running midfield. We were beaten by a better team on the day. The Broadbeach game was a disappointing loss. We had more of the ball but used it poorly however we are improving every week and the beauty is we have a long season ahead of us to rectify it.

2. The 2012 playing list, looks like the club has lost some experienced players this year but then the list has some really handy young guns who with a bit of time and development should be able to give Morningside some good games to look forward to. You must be pleased by what the future of the Club has to look forward to?

This club has the best young talent in the state which is a very exciting position for MAFC to be in. I am really looking forward to working with all the young guns over the coming years and watching them develop into senior footballers. MAFC has always had a very large focus on developing juniors from within the club and this is the proven formula to success over the past decade and this will not be changing.

3. You have gone from Morningside player in 2010 to Senior Coach in 2012 is this big adjustment from Coach to Player?

Absolutely. I am really enjoyed it and am looking forward to continuing the successful tradition of MAFC the exciting years ahead.

4 . Your CV indicates you have played under some quality coaches in your playing days. Is there anyone coach that stood out for you?

Paul Roos and have probably had the largest influence on my coaching techniques. John Blair and Nathan Clarke have also had a huge influence on my coaching career while I have also learn a fair bit from Neale Danaher and Ross Lyon.

5 In the NEAFL, Labrador has had a good start to the 2012 season is there a team you think might be the one to beat this year?

I think it will be a very even competition again this year. All the clubs look strong as does NT again it will be interesting to see how the season pans out. SAFE  FRIENDLY  SKILLS  SUPPORTIVE  SPORTSMANSHIP April 2012 Panther Print

6 As a kid which AFL team did you support? Sydney.

7 And now? Sydney & Brisbane.

8 Who do you think will be in the AFL Grand Final this year?

No idea!! Not the two I mentioned above…

9 How about the Brownlow, Who is your tips for this year?

Tom Bell and Tom Hickey

10 If you were to have a dinner party for six who would your guests be?

Tom Bell, Shaun Mugavin, John Blair, Desley, ‘Johnny’ and my girlfriend (to cook for us)

11 Your full forward “Mugsy” and his brother ran a pre- season boxing comp and two Morningside players competed in it. Did Mugsy ask you if you wanted to be a “Contender”? If he had what would your answer be Yes or no?

No he didn’t and it would have been a big NO if he did. I can’t punch my way out of a paper bag.

Thanks for your time Aaron and good luck with the Panthers in 2012 and we hope your dinner party goes well.
