6 Role Context

This appointment is under Qualified Common Tenure. The PCC’s desire is that this should be a long-term, ongoing role. However the “qualification” is a necessary technical reflection of the fact that no PCC can guarantee funding of any role ad infinitum. In the event, pledges have been received guaranteeing support for the first three years. Also the church’s finances are healthy, and it is one of the largest contributors to the Diocese. This part of the appointment is an important topic and we encourage all applicants to read http://dioceseofyork.org.uk/uploads/attachment/512/diocesan-clergy-handbook.pdf, especially sections 2.3 and 11.2. If you have any questions on this matter, please raise them with the vicar.

10 Vision, Strategy and Action Plans

Our vision is “Making Disciples for Life.”

To achieve this, our strategy is to increase our staffing and change our structure so that our priorities and our resources are fully aligned with our Vision.

Staffing: In March 2015, Tessa Stephens joined us for 50% of her time as an Associate Minister, with a focus on discipleship (for the other 50% of her time, Tessa is Chaplain to ). In summer 2016, we intend to appoint a full-time Associate Minister for Evangelism.

Structure: We are reducing the size of our PCC, and focusing its remit on oversight and statutory duties. We are establishing a Church Leadership Team, which includes the clergy and the Administrator, charged with providing clear leadership on both operational and strategic issues and timescales. We have appointed Ministry Leaders for evangelism, discipleship, fellowship, service, worship, communication and administration. These Ministry Leaders are largely lay members. In addition to encouraging people serving in their respective ministry areas, the Ministry Leaders have a prime responsibility to identify key areas that need addressing and to develop action plans that support delivery of the Vision.
